Chocolarium – die Glücksfabrik von Munz und Minor — Attraction in Flawil

Visited from the UK, where we've already enjoyed just about every chocolate factory experience the UK has to offer, so our expectations for a chocolate-themed attraction are already pretty high. This one is really special, though!

The Chocolarium is very interactive, making it great for children - a good blend of education, fun and a little bit of magic. The chocolate samples were delicious, and myself and my 10 year old were completely in awe of the last bit of the tour where you can see so many different elements of the factory at work - that's an experience that hasn't existed in the UK for a long time, but took me back to what Cadbury World used to be like when I was a child, before it became an overly-commercialised visitor attraction. My daughter also loved that the moment we stepped off the train it felt like the experience began, following the signs for the 'Chocolate Way' through Flawil's streets and countryside. Not an overly-long walk, and the excitement builds as you walk through the field with the factory getting closer!

We liked how the tour was completely self-led so we could go at our own pace, and at the end my daughter really enjoyed decorating her own chocolate bar. It's also worth saying that the shop at the end is VERY fairly priced, so I couldn't resist buying a few souvenirs, and both the chocolates and jelly sweets are probably the best I've ever tasted so I wish I'd had space in my hand luggage for even more!

We combined our short break trip to the Chocolarium with a visit to the Lindt Factory, which was a very different kind of experience. We loved both, but if you could only do one I would really, really recommend prioritising The Chocolarium. It's something...

This place is absolutely fantastic fun for children. The interactive exhibits and playful way information is presented make it highly engaging and enjoyable for younger visitors. It's clear that making the experience joyful was a key goal, and they've succeeded brilliantly.

Beyond the sheer fun, the Chocolarium is also surprisingly informative. You get wonderful insights into the entire chocolate-making process, from the cocoa bean journey to the final Maestrani product. It also offers a fascinating look into the history and heritage of the Maestrani brand itself.

Wir haben die letzte Führung des Tages gebucht. Diese hat um 17:00 Uhr begonnen. Während des Filmes sind andauernd Mitarbeitende in den Raum, weil sie nicht wussten, dass jemand noch da ist. Das war wahnsinnig nervig. Als wir danach mit der Führung in den verschiedenen Räumen begonnen haben, konnten wir gerade mal einen Raum richtig betrachten, da kam schon die nächste Mitarbeiterin, welche uns aufgefordert hat sofort unsere Schokolade zu verzieren, weil sie angeblich jetzt schliessen. Es war nicht mal 17:30 Uhr. Also mussten wir alles stehen und liegen lassen und die Schokolade verzieren. Dies durften wir auch nur schnell schnell machen, weil die Mitarbeiterin uns so herumgescheucht hat und wir hatten nicht mal das volle Erlebnis. Bei der Schokoladenverzierung gibt es nach der Verzier-Station und eine Kühlstation, bei welcher man zusehen kann, wie die Schokolade gekühlt wird und währenddessen läuft ein Film, dem man zusätzlich mit kleinen Hörern zuhören kann. Dies konnten wir natürlich nicht machen, wir mussten in den 10 Minuten, in der die Schokolade gekühlt wurde, die restliche Führung machen. Offensichtlich reichen 10 Minuten für fast eine ganze Führung nicht mehr. Wir konnten kaum etwas anschauen, zudem war die Reinigungskraft schon da und permanent hinter uns. Das hat uns natürlich das Gefühl gegeben, als hätten wir hier nichts mehr zu suchen. Die Schokoladenbrunnen- und Spender waren zum Teil schon leer. Hätte von der Zeit so oder so nicht gereicht alles zu probieren, weil ehe wir uns versahen, stand schon wieder die Mitarbeiterin vor uns und teilte uns mit, dass sie die Schokolade schon eingepackt hat. So viel ich weiss, ist das Einpacken der Schokolade ebenfalls ein Teil des Erlebnis und auch dies konnten wir nicht selbst machen. Danach stand die Mitarbeiterin so erwartungsvoll vor uns mit der Hoffnung, dass wir die Führung beenden, aber wir haben uns trotzdem noch ein bisschen umgesehen in der Verzier-Station. Wir sind dann, um 17:45 raus aus dieser Station. Es folgt ein langer Gang mit vielen Bildern und Infos, das war der einzige Ort, wo niemand gestört hat. Dort haben wir noch durch das Fernrohr gesehen. Am Schluss befindet sich noch der Maestrani-Shop, auch dort wurden wir von den Mitarbeiterinnen beobachtet, als wären wir Diebe, die eingebrochen sind. Um Punkt 18:00 Uhr sind wir losgefahren. Das bedeutet, dies hat alles innerhalb der Öffnungszeiten stattgefunden. Ich habe nichts dagegen etwas mehr zu bezahlen für ein tolles Erlebnis, aber 16 Franken für den Eintritt und zusätzlich 10 Franken für das Verzieren der Schokolade, um schlussendlich nicht mal die Hälfte der Führung zu machen, finde ich schon grotesk. Wenn Sie rechtzeitig schliessen möchten, sollten Sie entweder keine Führung um 17:00 Uhr anbieten oder Ihre Öffnungszeiten anpassen, aber sicher nicht die Besucher...
