There are many medieval towns on its shores and you can cross it in two places, at Rapperswil above the lake dam and in Meilen by ferry. The lake has been inhabited for many thousands of years since stone age, as evidenced by the remains of piles and archaeological finds excavated around the lake. the lake is a remnant of the former linth glacier, linth also means its inflow. The outflow is called Limmat and is in the middle of Zurich under the Quaibridge, also a place with a long history. At the Gold Coast, the last sunbeams illuminate the height of the Pfannenstiel ridge in golden light until the evening, while the snuffing coast beneath the Albishills is lit only by the morning sun and lies in the shadow already in the late afternoon.
