I like adventure in general..and getting lost can also be part of it when you are still getting to the goal at the end..unfortunately the map was useless for me..we endended up going down on the hike by following those damn white red and white lines..the entry was not obvious..the indications on the way had nothing to do with the target point of the bahn..we spent 3 and half hours trying to find our way up which we never did..we got rescued and brought back to base by some nice people working in the forest in their pick up..i had to pay twice the price of the bahn because the plan was to hike up and use the bahn to go down but ended up having to pay for the way up as well..anyways..nature lovers would like it..but please have someone with you who can read the road (as in how many meter or km you have to take that left or right one..)..and understand map without indications (you still find some A4 sheet printed and getting soaked on some pole telling you where you are) which I could not even identify on the map given at base..completely useless..i was so disappointed and tired with three kids with me.. We just wanted this to be done and over with..people just come and go up and down the bahn..but the point of driving almost 2 hours there was to also enjoy the hike which we did to some degree..but not getting to the goal and constantly having to check on the map (totally disassociated to the indicating signs on the road was not what I expected) and of course my phone went off..couldn't even get the amazing panorama...

Lovely day here. We were the first ones up our ticket was around 9 so we arrived at 8.45. Please be early as everyone wants to sit at the front and rush. You also need to book for the way back but it can be tricky and you will need to plan as we didn’t know when we wanted to come back as we weren’t sure what was up there.

We made our way to the top, the ride was incredible and steep where we could see the mountains across. We had a clear day so that was good.

Once we reached the top we came across a beautiful clear lake. My partner and I had a quick swim and it was so lovely and refreshing.

After that it was only 10 so we thought we would walk around the lake. We were mindful of the time as we had booked 12.45 and we had googled it takes around 2 hours to walk around. The path isn’t hard itself but you definitely need hiking boots.

There are beautiful stop offs along the way but we couldn’t enjoy it as much due to the time restraint we had with booking our return time.

We made it 15 minutes late but we were allowed on to the next one as we weren’t that late but sometimes it may be fully booked.

Book your slots online as it seems to get fully booked straight away and people were being turned away and some had to wait for half an hour to an hour to get up there.

There is also a bridge when you get down you can visit before or after your trip which has a lovely waterfall.

The Gelmerbahn funicular is an absolutely incredible and unforgettable experience! I embarked on this adventure with my family, and we were delighted with every aspect of this journey.

First and foremost, the picturesque surroundings caught our eyes. The views that accompanied us during the ascent were breathtaking. Winding through narrow paths, we were surrounded by wild mountain landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and emerald lakes. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

The ride on the Gelmerbahn funicular itself was incredibly thrilling. It is the steepest funicular in the world, which added to our excitement. We could feel the rush of emotions as we ascended higher and higher, gaining altitude in a more and more extraordinary way. It is truly an unforgettable experience and a perfect attraction for adrenaline enthusiasts.

The staff was also very professional and friendly. The personnel was always smiling and willingly answered our questions, sharing interesting facts about the funicular and the area. We felt cared for and safe throughout the entire journey.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Gelmerbahn funicular to anyone visiting this region. It is one of those places you must see with your own eyes to appreciate its beauty and magic. It's a true gem in the heart of the Swiss Alps and undoubtedly leaves beautiful memories...

Would you ride the Gelmerbahn in Switzerland? The 106% gradient makes this Europe’s steepest mountain coaster. 🎢⛰️🇨🇭 This unique funicular will take you 12 minutes to reach the top giving you plenty of time to take in the impressive views around you. It only goes 4.5 mph, giving your stomach plenty of time to still drop. If you look closely, the woman sitting in the middle, next to Madison, was afraid of heights so she covered her eyes the entire ride. 😅 Once at the top, you’ll be met with a spectacular crystal blue lake that you can spend the day hiking around and enjoying. Built in 1926, this ride only opened to the public in 2001 when the hydropower company that produces hydroelectricity from the dams near Gelmberbahn and Grimsel pass decided to turn it into a tourist attraction. Up until then it was in service for employees to access dams and turbine plants on the mountain pass. *Make sure you reserve your tickets in advance for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. SHARE this with someone who needs to add this mountain coaster to their summer in Switzerland #bucketlist. 😍 Shot on @GoPro #GoProMAX
