Switzerland has a lot of huts, so when planning my holiday, I spent many hours researching which one to visit. I ultimately selected Lobhorn; since the hike didn't sound scary and the views from the hut looked out-of-this-world. We had perfect weather for this trip. We rode the tram to the half-way point and hiked the rest of the way. The views along the hike left me speechless. It was interesting to see a high altitude pig farm along the way and free range alpine cattle on the mountainsides above hut. The hike from the top of the tramway to Lobhorn is about 2 miles and isn't particularly hard. The ascent is mostly gradual.||||Lobhorn hut is actually two huts: a kitchen/dining hut and a sleeping hut. We had dinner at the hut. One of the hut keepers seemed somewhat annoyed with me when I told her that I don't eat beef when she announced what was for dinner. I was informed that I should announce my dietary restrictions in advance next time. The kitchen staff prepared a vegetarian meal for me, even though I had told them that they didn't have to since I had brought food with me. ||||Mattresses, pillows, and blankets are provided, as well as Crocs for wear inside the huts. My girlfriend had hauled her Thermarest to the hut for nothing. ||||There is an outdoor sink with running water. Signs indicate that the water is not potable, so bring a water filter if you don't want to purchase drinks at the hut.||||The two-unit outhouse was among the smelliest that I've used. I think they should contact the people at AMC's huts in the White Mountains of New Hampshire for some tips on how to keep them from smelling so bad.||||This was one of my favorite experiences during my holiday. Reservations are advisable and can be made via email well in advance. No deposit was required, but payment is due in CASH...

Read moreThis was the third time I have stayed in a Swiss mountain hut. All are different, but this is definitely my favourite so far. We hiked up from Mürren Allmendhubel which took just under 4 hours in the sweltering heat. When we arrived at the hut, we were warmly greeted and made to feel at home. The hut is super cute, picture postcard like and the views of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are just stunning. The evening meal was really tasty. They have good wines too - at not a bad price by Swiss standards. The hut has a really relaxed feel, we finished off our wine on a little hill to catch the last of the setting sun. There is also a little lake 5 mins walk which was great for cooling off :-) Breakfast was good too, and put us in good stead for our hike back down to Saxeten. A big thanks to Irene and Talak for a...
