An absolute must see if you are in the area. There are also other gorgeous tall waterfalls nearby that give a magical Lord of the Rings feeling as you approach Trümmelbach. What makes Tummelbach Falls so special is that it is a very powerful waterfall that is completely hidden in the rock that it has slowly been carving away for millions of years.
You have the option to take stairs and a path all the way up and down. However it is recommended to take the angled large capacity elevator half way up and then walk up to see the falls above you and then walk all the way down. Technically you could take the elevator down but why miss the other six views of the falls?
When you finish going down all the paths and steps and are back near the entrance to the elevator there is a side path to take to see the lfirst two viewing points.
To note, for this experience you follow a prepared , sometimes slippery, (but safe because of handrail) trail through the mountain and see different views of the rushing falls as it travels down. There are cute photo opportunities too. There are steps, so if you have bad knees it won’t...
Read moreTrümmelbach Falls, located in Switzerland’s Lauterbrunnen Valley, is a truly unique experience—Europe’s only accessible underground glacier waterfall. Fed by the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau glaciers, these powerful falls channel up to 20,000 litres of water per second through the inside of a mountain. A tunnel-lift takes visitors partway up, and from there, well-built paths and staircases lead to viewing platforms where you can feel the thunderous roar and see dramatic rock formations carved by centuries of glacial force.
Open from April to November, the site is about 3 km from Lauterbrunnen village and is reachable by car, bike, or a scenic walk. Entry costs around CHF 14, and while a lift aids access, there are many steps and wet surfaces—so sturdy footwear and a waterproof jacket are advised. Trümmelbach Falls is not just a waterfall, but a sensory immersion into the raw power of the Alps—ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking an unforgettable...
Read moreFirst of all, this place is not covered under Swiss Pass (or any other passes). It’s 15 Franc.
If you’re coming for an experience, i.e getting to walk inside a cave with waterfalls flowing through, which could be rare (I don’t know), then it might be worth it.
But if you’re coming for some spectacular views of falls/caves and you’ve been to many (especially the famous ones), I’d recommend people who’s on tight schedule/budget save the time/money on other spots—for example Oeschinensee which includes two-way cable car and has a lot more to offer at the same cost (with Swiss Travel Pass). The place itself is rather small, and the most breathtaking view is just… fairly ordinary.
That said, this place has a plus, which is not about the waterfall at all, but about the higher viewpoint to overlook the village of Lauterbrunnen.
P/S: I tried my VERY best to find good angles (to worth the money). The actual viewing experience might differ...
