This lake is known for its crystal-clear waters that can reach a comfortable 23°C in the summer. You can enjoy swimming at several lakeside beaches, such as Seepark Lungern, which features a beach, diving platform, water trampoline, and slide. For a more budget-friendly option, Seebad BĂŒrglen offers free access with amenities like clean toilets, barbecue facilities, and a small waterslide. The area around the lake is ideal for hiking and biking. There are numerous trails, including the easy 9 km Lake Lungern Circular Trail, which takes about 2-3 hours to complete. For more challenging hikes, you can take the cable car to Turren and explore trails like the Brienzer Rothorn or SchönbĂŒel, offering stunning panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The BrĂŒnig railway line, running between Interlaken and Lucerne, offers a scenic journey with stops in Lungern, providing an excellent way to appreciate the lake and its surroundings.

I had the chance to visit Lake Lungern in 2015 and again in 2019 with my family — and both times, it took my breath away. This lake is truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in my life. The crystal-clear water, the stunning mountain views, and the peaceful atmosphere make it feel like a piece of paradise on Earth. I still remember telling my wife, “Now that I’ve seen Lake Lungern, every penny spent on our Europe tour is worth it.” That’s how special this place is! The lake and surrounding area are very clean, well-kept, and perfect for families, picnics, or just quietly soaking in the beauty of nature. Switzerland is full of amazing spots, but Lake Lungern will always have a special place in our hearts. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Switzerland — don’t miss this hidden gem!

To truly experience all that Lake Lungern has to offer you need to stay in the area. You can get really close to nature by camping. Camp Obsee is conveniently situated at the lakeside. It has a beach and little marina as well for boats. Seebad Lungern and the Lungern-Turren cable car are just a few minutes walk away. It really is a great base to explore the area. If sleeping in a tent and cooking with a gas stove is not really your thing, you can also rent a bungalow and the onsite restaurant can make mealtimes enjoyable.
