Nice walk to Meggenhorn Schloss from Luzern center with its gardens, vineyard, farm with animals, playground, picnic area and a bathroom) l. There are several options for a visit to the Meggen Horn. Once reaching the castle, enjoy a circular loop walk pass by vineyard, farm, boat house, large wooden Christ sculpture on the Meggenhorn with stepped wood walk back up to castle. (Can do in reverse starting loop at yellow walking signage in front of castle (lakeside). Have done this entire walk multiple times over past 15 years walking and when timing works, return by lovely small vintage wooden boat to Luzern center ship dock, near KKL) with exiting possible along the way (ex Hermitage Hotel, Swiss Transport Museum, Wagner Home…).Walking from Luzern train station (Bahnhof) possible in 45 min to an hour, along the lakeside promenade then a short bit on roadway sidewalk to Hermitage Hotel. Look for yellow walking signs on left side of Hermitage Hotel when facing the lake. Follow signage for 20+ minutes to Meggen Schloss from the Hermitage Hotel. To shorten walk, take Bus 24 either from Luzern Bahnhof, Scwannenplatz …from the Swiss Transportation Museum (post beautiful lakeside promenade) and exit Bus 24 at the Hermitage Hotel stop, directly in front of hotel. Also, there is a pay parking lot just past Hermitage Hotel. If you stop for a drink etc at the hotel, they provide upon request a free parking pass. Don’t miss walk up to hills behind the castle following a path, pass 2 wooden sunbathing benches, ending at gazebo for additional breathtaking scenery. My children, now grown, continue to enjoy all the Meggenhorn provides. It is a beautiful place requiring little to no expense to enjoy Switzerland...
Read moreA very beautiful setting and gardens, however there is a severe lack of information for tourist with regards to opening hours etc. When I arrived there was some very unclear temporary signage (right down at the castle) it was closed for a private function. Then after speaking with someone who appeared to be setting up for an event, I was told that the terrace out the front was booked for a special event and that you can only tour the inside of the castle on Sundays. Whilst I don’t doubt that it is lovely inside, I feel if they going to be renting the property for private events it would be in everyone’s best interest that they provide much clearer and up to date information as to when the castle will be open and when it is closed for private function. This will save tourists feeling like the are gate crashing a private function / wasting their time visiting when it is closed and will also no doubt make for a much more pleasant...

I visited Meggenhorn last week and absolutely loved it! It’s such a peaceful spot just outside the city, with breathtaking views over Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains. The walk up is easy and scenic, passing through vineyards and green spaces.
At the top, there’s the beautiful Meggenhorn Castle and a quiet park area where you can relax, enjoy a picnic, or just take in the view. The combination of lake, mountains, and nature is simply magical — I stayed much longer than I planned!
It’s perfect if you want a calm escape from the busy town, and it’s great for families, couples, or solo travelers. Highly recommended if you're in Lucerne and want something a bit more...
