Beautiful experience in Neuchatel. We actually drove to the top of the Funicular in Chaumont rather than in the Neuchatel town. So we first went down to the town and then back up to Chaumont again. But it's nevertheless a short 10 minute ride each way with some breathtaking views. On a clear day you can see Mont Blanc to the Jungfrau and all other peaks in between. At Chaumont, you can also climb a small tower very close to the station (50 odd steps) and get even more beautiful views. The Funicular cost was CHF 4.20 each way and the observation tower was 1 franc. Make sure you have single franc coins as the machine only takes those or coins of smaller denominations. If you are in Neuchatel, I would highly...

Absolutely astonishing views of the lakes and the mountains. If your go up the funiculaire, you MUST take the extra steps and go up the tower to see the full landscape. (Entry is 1 Franc. If you don't have change, there's a change-making machine in the main building.) I could have spent hours taking in the scene, trying to memorize a few peaks by looking at the map.

(Also, if you're in more or less good shape and the weather is nice, you can hike up the mountain. I walked from the botanical garden up, and the trail is just gorgeous. (It takes about 2 / 2.5 hours to complete, and some bits are pretty steep, buy...

Lots of fun! We were visiting Neuchatel and decided to do it just for the experience. Lots of seats, room for bikes, windows all around including the roof. The track is nicely done surrounded by tall trees as it goes over bridges and around bends. The view back into town and toward the lake is beautiful. Once you're at the top, be sure to pay the one franc to climb up the tower for the best panoramic view of the three lakes. It's...
