Went on a hike and visited Pfeffingen caste for the first time. Spectacular view of Basel and surrounding area. Lots of history and great weather added to the enjoyment. If you like old castle ruins, this is a perfect place to explore and enjoy the scenery. Also nice place to have a picnic with friends and relax in nature.

Die Ruine Pfeffingen thront auf dem Grat des Blauen, oberhalb des gleichnamigen Dorfes. Sie ist vom Birseck und von der Angensteiner-Klus her gut sichtbar. Die Ruine Pfeffingen erstrahlt seit August 2017 in neuem Glanz. Gut sieben Millionen Franken kostete die Sanierung der Burganlage, die seit jeher ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel ist. Nun ist ihre Begehung wieder sicher, Mitte August wurde die sie mit einem Volksfest wiedereröffnet, nach dem die fünf Jahre dauernde Sanierung ein Jahr früher als geplant abgeschlossen wurden. Durch die Erhöhung markanter Mauern hat die Ruine Pfeffingen ein neues, eindrückliches Gesicht erhalten. Breitere Wege und neue Infotafeln sowie zwei Grillplätze und Sitzbänke warten auf Besuch. Besonderes Highlight ist eine neue Aussichtsplattform, die sowohl Einblicke auf weitere, früher nicht sichtbare Mauerresten bietet, als auch den Ausblick nach Süden ins Laufental öffnet.

Nice and easy hike. The ruin of the castle is in very good conditionand is also home to a couple of barbecue. It’s free and open 24/7 and you have a nice view over the valley and Basel. It’s a nice place to have a picnic or barbecue when the weather is good.

Great Place... With Family or without... You can grill there... And it has beautiful hiking trails. Good on foot or by car. With a fantastic View over Aesch and Basel... Really Beautiful... Much more by sunny Days but can be mystic when it have Clouds or its a Rainday... That can be interesting for Photographs...

Open 24/7, free entry, 15 min walk from bus & parking. Together with castle dorneck it guarded once the entry from river Birs into the mountains. First begins around 11th century. Fantastic wide view to Bale, Vosgues, Black Forest and all other castles in the area. Interesting ruins in very good condition,...
