We spent a delightful day at Servion Zoo, a hidden gem nestled in the scenic countryside near Lausanne. This boutique, intimate zoo offers something truly special - a chance to get remarkably close to the animals while still ensuring their comfort and well-being.
What impressed me most was the obvious dedication to animal welfare. The enclosures are spacious and thoughtfully designed to mimic natural habitats. The big cats, including their magnificent tigers and snow leopards, have large, enriched spaces with plenty of climbing structures and places to rest or hide when they choose.
The zoo's focus on European wildlife alongside exotic species creates a unique educational experience. We particularly enjoyed watching the lynx, wolves, and brown bears - all species native to Switzerland. The bird of prey demonstrations were spectacular, showcasing local raptors in flight.
The staff's passion is evident in their work. During feeding times, keepers share fascinating insights about the animals' behaviors and conservation efforts. They're happy to answer questions in multiple languages, making it accessible for international visitors.
The zoo is impeccably maintained, with clean facilities and well-marked paths winding through beautiful landscaping. The small restaurant offers good quality food at reasonable prices, with lovely views of the surrounding countryside.
Perfect for families, but equally enjoyable for adults, Servion Zoo provides an intimate wildlife experience without the overwhelming size of larger zoos. Don't miss the red pandas - they're absolutely charming! Free parking and easy access from Lausanne make this a convenient day trip.
A true Swiss gem that delivers a meaningful and memorable wildlife...
Read moreLoved the zoo, animals seem to have quite a lot of space and the environment is really nice for a walk around. Unluckily for us we went on a cold and rainy day but it was still enjoyable. Big playground for kids to have fun and enjoy. I wouldn't book tickets in advance as you can get a ticket for both the zoo and the tropiquarium (which is right next to it), but I couldn't find it on the website, so we decided to just go to the zoo and get the tickets there directly. There's food there and enough space with big tables for families to eat, there's also an outside for sunny days. As a big fan of gift shop though I was a bit disappointed as it is located in the cafeteria bit and there isn't many items but overall that's just a minor thing, the zoo is great!! I'd...
Read moreJust came back from a thoroughly depressing trip to this zoo.
It’s small, but with a large number of animals. That means enclosures are tiny. They are unstimulating, especially the inside of the lions enclosure. Some of the birds are also kept in very small, boring runs. There are some newer areas, like the walkway over the bisons enclosure (more concrete), but overall it is a lot more run down than the website would suggest.
This isn’t even hiding behind the guise of conservation, it’s just a pretty rubbish private zoo. It feels like in 2024 we can do better.
There is a big playground and a restaurant that serves the usual (chips and sausage, chips and steak, chips and chicken…).
I wouldn’t take my kids there again. I wish I...
