An awesome Tillinghast course right in the city. It’s a smaller course because of it’s age and design, but it’s a really cool layout. Very good, and memorable, holes that will make you want to play it again and again. Greens were great. No houses on the course. The ONLY negative is that it is a hilly course. If you’re going to take a cart, no problem. If you walk it, you’ve been warned. All the holes are named. I think Tillinghast does this for all his designs. We played 7 rounds in KC, and this was the only course we played twice. It’s so original, and fun, I could play it again and again and not get bored. The parking is really weird and there isn’t much of it, but other than that, great Course, great location, great layout. We walked and got around in about 3:45 on a busy day. I’ll definitely be playing Swope the next time I’m in KC!

Vacationing in KC from the Chicagoland area and wanted to play a local course. Quality golf course! Short, tight and challenging. The staff is amazing! Everyone from the club house attendant, to the starter and ranger made sure my wife and I were having a great time. It was cart path only but unless you landed in a bunker, you couldn’t tell they had 4 inches of rain yesterday morning. Bravo to the groundskeepers! I will recommend to others and plan to be back.

Great public course in Kansas City. Part of the 1,800 acre park created from the land donated by Thomas Swope (1300e acres) near the turn of century. The park contains an old growth forest, the Kansas City zoo, two golf courses, and many other attractions. Very near where this picture was taken there is a Greek inspired mausoleum containing the remains of Thomas Swope, a spectacular fountain, and one of the best sunset spots in Kansas City.

SWOPE Memorial Golf Course 6900 Swope Memorial Drive Kansas City, Missouri

Loved the golf course so much we went back and played it again the next day and plan to make this our ‘Go To’ course for the summer. Rates are great, course is in excellent shape and the staff is outgoing and friendly.

The Course itself played well, Tee Boxes are solid and level - Red Tees are well placed for female and junior golfers and those with a higher handicap. Second cut can be tough for finding your ball but more motivation to take a little off your swing and keep the ball in the fairway. Greens played fast, so a little caution once you are on but with a little loft the ball can stick when pitching up. Pace was perfect, the Course Marshalls keep the golfers moving and other golfers were very accommodating to let singles and others play through.

Course has many challenging holes that will force you to play ‘Target Golf’ but has many holes that allow you to hit the driver. Par 3’s were a bit long; and one of the many challenges were the hills and inclines/declines from the Tee Boxes. Bunkers were well cared for and well placed - compliments to the Course Superintendent and grounds crew.

A nice feature was the Club House and the Snack Bar. They offer a wide variety of food and snacks, to include grilled & fired items, chips, hotdogs. In addition, they offer an ice cooler you can use to purchase and take beverages out on the course. Wide variety of alcohol and what appeared to be a full service bar to make the golf experience a bit more relaxed. The Pro Shop is well stocked with inventory in the event you need to pick up some golfing items or merchandise.

Highly recommend SWOPE Memorial Golf Course to any golfer at any skill level -...

Ok, so check this out: A buddy and I just took a road trip to Kansas City for our birthday's, as sort of a little golf getaway from our home state of Michigan. Our intentions were to play a different course called Stone Canyon, but much to my dismay, when we get there the guy at the pro shop tells me that I don't have a tee time. When booking I noticed I didn't get a confirmation email, so I called and talked to a kid who said my teeth time went through for 10:30 and that we were good. We weren't. So I called around to other courses to find somewhere to play. Every place was booked because it was the most beautiful February day ever! Anywho .... We found Swope had one opening and took it. I thought to myself "this course is less than 6300 yards, I'm gonna eat this course alive!" Upon pulling into this driveway I can feel that my initial assessment could have been very wrong. Sure enough, the course is absolutely PHENOMENAL and it humbles me in every way a golf course can! Ha! But every single shot is fun to play! Elevation, undulation, and lightning fast greens! But they rolled perfect! Last but definitely not least, Nick, Dave and ALL of the staff working that day were the most awesome and hospitable people I've encountered at a golf course! For real, I golf all over the country, and I am being honest. So to the guys there, your course is legit and both myself and my buddy are stoked to have been treated with such respect. You literally made our trip...

Beautiful layout with some real challenging holes and longer oar 3s. Finesse over distance on this course!

Ratings out of 3: Clubhouse is a 2 out of 3. What the building lacks in presentation the staff more than makes up for. It's not an overly impressive clubhouse, but the facilities all worked and the staff was cheerful and also very helpful. Carts we're a 2 out of 3. They were in good running order, clean and they had a USB port. They didn't have a GPS system though, so you will have to get to know the course either through an app or the old fashioned way: play it. They also didn't have a cooler, so you use the spongey snap top style ice bags. Course was a 2 out of 3. Views were great. No houses on the course, plenty of mature trees and shade to be found. You can't see all of the pins from the fairways, so it makes for some interesting second shots. The fairways are narrow. If you have a "power fade" from the tee box you may opt for a long iron instead of a driver. There are some great views.

One note: though I didn't count it against the clubhouse rating, we played 18 in 90 degree heat and didn't see the cart girl a single time in 4.5 hours, front or back. Hopefully our experience was an anomaly.

Overall it's a beautiful, finesse course that has a great staff. I'm looking forward to our next round at Swope Memorial...
