This fort was known for its strength and strategic importance. First attack on this fort was made by Mahmud Ghaznavi in 1024 AD. He laid down the siege, was wounded and failed to take the fort. There are three gateways to the fort known as Lakshmi Pol, Phuta Darwaza, and Gagudi ki Phatak. There were 14 bastions in the wall of this fort. Most parts of these gateways are now in ruins. The largest of its battlements is the 16th-century bastion known as the Bhim Burj, on which was once mounted a large cannon called Garbh Gunjam, or 'Thunder from the Womb'. In the fort are water reservoirs. The fort also holds a shrine dedicated to Miran Saheb ki Dargah, who lost his life in 1202AD during a Rajput attack. He was killed, along with many other Musalmaans. As per Tarikhi Daudi, there was no Dargah when SherShah visited the fort in 1544 AD and this place has no importance. It was later made up as Dargah.

Going to the fort I recommend going by a shared omini that's available anywhere throughout Ajmer especially near the dargah, reaching to the top is the only good part, there isn't much to see, the fort is in a really bad shape and barely looked after, there isn't much to see ofbthe fort, the view may be better after rains and cloud's but I personally didn't enjoy it as such. The way back to the dargah by foot was hectic and the path is full of sketchy shops selling weird con stuff. Wouldn't recommend it.

Awesome place. You can view full city from above I was there for more about two hours and that was a very great feeling up there. I was amazed that how the king of that time built that big castle up there it was a great work of architecture.

Historical place, amazing experience. But not maintain this heritage by government. I'm very disappointed to see that.
