I found this beach extremely dangerous. But not the water, the lifeguards. I see lifeguards speeding on 4 wheelers at very high speeds through crowds coming very close to children and people laying on the beach just to blow whistles at people in knee deep water. It’s actually very crazy. I’ve never done a negative post on google before in my life. But honestly I have to say this beach is just not a place to relax by the ocean. I’ve personally almost had my foot ran over last weekend. I yelled for him to slow down and I’m sure the lifeguard wanted to fight.

Taiwan is a great place to live and work. But for tourism and going for a relaxing beach day. Do yourself a favor. Pay the $2000-$3000 nt for a flight and go to one of the many other countries that have figured out the value of a tourist dollar.

If you want to sit on the beach on a very hot day and not be allowed to swim in calm ocean water without having hired gangsters yell and threaten you. And, if you don’t mind your children being run over by these gangster lifeguards going high speeds through a packed beach. Then this is the...

One of the better beaches in New Taipei City (this is not meant to be particularly high praise) is found at this little bay (Báishāwān), the name of which translates as 'white-sand bay' – though these days it is definitely more of a brownish colour. The entrance to the beach is down a side road 100m or so off Hwy 2 (there are brown signs in English around the 23km mark). Swimming is permitted from May to September, as is surfing. For surfboard rentals and lessons, visit CU Surf Paradise Taiwan on the main road where the bus drops you off.

Baishawan is formed by the stubby finger of rocky Linshanbi Cape (麟山鼻, Línshānbí) extending into the Taiwan Strait. This is a scenic part of the north coast and a several-kilometres-longboardwalk runs along the shoreline as part of a 10km bike path from Sanzhi to Shimen.

Tourism Shuttle Buses from Danshui MRT station stop on Hwy 2 just before the entrance. Or catch bus 862 (20 to 30 minutes, every 20 to 40 minutes) heading to Keelung. The first bus leaves at 5.50am. Check the stop at Baishawan for the return schedule (there should be return buses until...

Made the trip from Taipei to Baishawan on a nice sunny day. Altogether it takes more than two hours from central Taipei, and I'm not sure it's worth it. The beach is OK - the sand is very fine and seems to get everywhere (of course to be expected with sand!). However there was a lot of trash on the beach, which was a shame. The day we went it wasn't very busy. After going into the water up to our waists, a lifeguard rode over on a beach car and told us not to go as deep as that, as the water is dangerous. Actually, the waves are pretty strong and you can feel currents underneath, so definitely a good idea to be cautious. I think if the beach were 30 minutes away, it's be worth it. But not worth a two hour plus journey!

This should have 5 stars, but...this beautiful beach in a picturesque bay is disgusting. In the summer months ‘someone’ puts up rows of cheap tarpaulin tents along the length of the beach for people to sit under, giving the beach the look of a refugee camp. Also, ‘they’ want you to swim in a roped off area in front of the refugee camp, which is crowded with people and is about 3 feet deep. Then there are the ‘lifeguards’, shouting on loudspeakers, whistling and riding quad bikes along the narrow beach. Total disrespect for the natural environment of the beach and area and feels more like a pretty prison camp than one of Taiwan’s best beaches. A real shame. Avoid it, especially in July and August.
