We were pleasantly surprised to find this relatively new zoo located on the outskirts of town. It’s only been open for about 3 years, and it still feels clean, spacious, and bright.
However, be prepared for lots of hills—this zoo is built on uneven terrain, so it may not be ideal for the elderly or visitors with mobility challenges.
Right at the entrance, there’s a large, 3-story building which also has food court offering a good variety of meals at reasonable prices (about 100 NTD per meal). This is also the only fully covered area in the zoo, so if it rains, it’s pretty much the only place to take shelter, other than the rest stop midway up hill.
There's also a stall near the entrance where you can buy food to feed the animals. Feeding times aren’t all scheduled in the pamphlet, and not all of the feedings are free.
🌴 The layout of the zoo is nice and spread out, with enough space to walk and explore. There's a small water play area at the top of the hill for families and kids, which includes fountains and shallow splash zones—great for families on a hot day.
🐏🐷🐯 As for the animals, don’t expect to see lions, tigers, or giraffes. This zoo focuses more on small to mid-sized animals, including many that are commonly found in petting zoos.
The aviary domes were well-designed and included trees for the birds, but unfortunately, some in mid size cages like the hornbill, kookabaras etc looked a little bored or lethargic.
The same goes for other animals like the emus, ostriches, and even the capybaras—one of which hid the whole time. It would be great if the zoo provided more enrichment or interactive environments for these animals. They already have nice living spaces with fans, but just nothing to do 🥺
Toilets were clean and stocked with soap and water, and there were plenty of rubbish bins throughout the park. Staff in the aviary section seemed genuinely caring, which was nice to see.
Parking is chargeable for 100 NTD.
Overall, it’s a pleasant place to visit if you're nearby and not expecting a large-scale zoo. It’s ideal for families with younger kids, but some improvements could be made in terms of accessibility and...
Read moreProbably the least exciting place I've ever paid to visit!!
Had planned this trip a few days before and actually got very excited as the day approached. My wife and I even planned to have an outdoor picnic with our 2yr old since it looked as if we could spend the whole morning and early afternoon there.
However... we were probably done circling the park at least TWICE on each "attraction" within 90 minutes!
Maybe bird watchers and other bird afficionados might enjoy this park more than we did. They might spend more time taking pictures of the animals instead of just strolling through each section unimpressed like we did.
My 2yr old mostly enjoyed the fake gigantic dinosaurs roaring endlessly... he wasnt much impressed by all the animals he got to see up close.
As for my wife and I, we had this feeling of disappointment that we actually paid $560 each to burn 90 minutes of our morning walking around a place that had no resemblance of an "amusement" park (樂園). We were definitely not amused and probably nor were the other families who also left right before noon like we did.
Overall, I definitely do NOT recommend visiting this place unless you really love birds of all types. Although this place also has some goats, deers, and donkeys, you would probably get a better experience visiting an actual petting zoo.
Definitely NOT worth the price...
Read moreAs someone who really cares about animals and is very sceptical towards places which keep animals for human entertainment, I have to say, this zoo is very well managed and animals seem to live a happy life! This is very important. I would only add more trees/higher grass for them to play with.
The entrance fee is maybe higher but the animals are well fed, most of them have a good area to live on and are protected from weird behaviour of people. Worth the money.
You can easily spend a one full day here as they have their own snack bars and a restaurant. Is it more suitable for kids? I don’t think so, me and my boyfriend enjoyed it very much!
Lastly, be aware that the English brochure doesn’t have an updated map yet so take the Mandarin version for better orientation or ask the staff.
Please, if you visit, be mindful. Animals are not toys and deserve to be treated with respect just like anyone else. Treasure the chance to be so...
