This is my review as a Taiwan native that went to Chateau de Jourdeness for the first time. If you're going as part of a tour group, it might be a nice place to stop. As a solo traveler, I would not suggest this place as a place to visit. First of all, the bus stop from Chiayi train Staton to Chateau de jourdeness is no where to be seen. The staff insisted that there was a sign posted from the gate 1 exit, but there isn't. Because I couldn't find the bus and the next bus wasnt for a few hours, I ended up taking a taxi that cost 900 NTY which is pretty steep. So I'm finally there and I'm anticipating an architectural wonder and I was sorely disappointed. Each floor has something different to look at. One floor has copies of paintings, others have laboratory recreations. Walking around, I was trying to figure out why I felt so confused walking around. Then it hit me, everything was filler. There were 4 floors of absolute meaningless nothing and the main goal of this park is to sell their skin care. I will say the food from the various restaurants is good, but it's not worth coming out just for the food. Going back to the train station was another ordeal. The park provides transport to the closest bus stop. The bus to the chiayi train station never came. I took another taxi and because it was evening by that point, it cost 1000 NTY. My conclusion is this place is a money grab. Save your money and go...
Read moreThis is definitely a tourist trap. There was long line to get in but it moved decently fast. Discounted tickets as well. I think it's worth a visit if you are relatively close by like in Chiayi or Nantou. We did street parking 3 blocks away.
It is sort of like a Disneyland castle with a bunch of people milling about, fountains, tacky gold crown molding, gift shops, and overpriced expensive restaurants that you go to for the magical feel. My dad tried making a reservation there to get the whole experience but it was full. So do that ahead of time if you are interested. They did sell other food like bentos so we got that and ate outside by one of the ponds. It was hard to find tables to sit at as well.
The atomsphere was lively so I think that's one thing I liked about it. So many people fighting for a spot to take pictures that you really needed to angle it just right if you don't want any strangers in the background.
The bathroom gorgeous. I think it was the...
Read moreThe place is beautiful for sightseeing and pictures. Although our group enjoyed the pond more, if you are interested in going, check it out. There's not much you can do here other than take pictures. What I appreciate about this place are the staff at the restaurant (Charmant Bistro). A customer in the restaurant took a picture of my friend and her child (both Black) without permission and was laughing while taking it. We were upset about how this customer was acting, so we informed the staff, and they handled the situation better than any other establishment in Taiwan, as this happens all the time. The staff talked to the customer and asked them to delete the pictures. They apologized to us for having to experience it. It was way better than other places in Taiwan. They also gave us some cookies which was a really sweet gesture. The ticketing center can also call a taxi since the location is not very accessible by public...
