Fangyuan Lighthouse — Attraction in Fangyuan Township

The lighthouse was built in 1983 at the eastern side of Wanggong Fishing Port to ensure the safety of vessels moving around the port.

The octagonal lighthouse is painted in black and white vertical bands and stands up to 35.7 meters. The tower was constructed with reinforced concrete and equipped with fourth class electric lamp, which generated 28,000 candlepower light for as far as 16.6 nautical miles. It was built with a power generation room, store room and dorms.

Fangyuan Lighthouse is the landmark of Wanggong. Just drive along the coastal route of Tai-Route 17, you can see the lighthouse far away. Fangyuan Lighthouse is octagonal in shape, with the height of 37.4m. It is the tallest lighthouse in Taiwan. Its light is 28000 watts, beaconing every 5 second. We visited during mid February which was considering end of winter season. Its was still pretty chilling. Scenery was good here. Lighthouse wasn't really the highlight of this place, its actually the oyster farming area and the windmills turbine that make this place so much interesting and scenic....

There is a large tidal land outside the lighthouse. It is recommended to go there to see the sunset.

There are local tours take you out and dig for clams. There are restaurants nearby to have them cooked.
