Really beautiful trail, you have scenic view points long the way. It is mostly shaded too which is nice. I will just add that this point on Google maps is not the peak and doesn’t provide the mountain views and rolling hills you see in the pictures, but it does provide the beautiful forest around you. This specific point on Google Maps it is a random point about 4-5 km up from the parking lot. To get to the actual view/peak (I think) you have to go up about 1.5 km of steps from this point. This point is just after the start of a trail- I think it’s called the our lady trail or something like that, that is almost entirely steps uphill. Up until this "Shengmu hiking trail" point on Google maps, it’s about 4-5 km of uphill (but not steps) from the parking lot. Beautiful green around you and some nice views of hills/mountains and waterfalls. Starting a few hundred meters before this point on google maps, is the beginning of the steps that are the our lady trail. Really lovely trail and doable, just recommend starting early and bring lots of water, two of us went through more than 3 bottles and we didn’t reach the top. A few nice shaded rest pavilions along the way. Also the initial waterfall trail at the bottom is closed until January 2026 so theres just a detour you have to take. Again, not hard, but just...
Read moreIt might be due to the growing popularity of this trail — in recent years, more and more Filipino tourists and workers have been coming here, and they are truly welcome.
However, whenever they appear, the mountain path is often filled with a strong, pungent perfume smell that lingers in the air. This often causes great discomfort for those walking behind them, and it also shows a lack of respect for the natural environment. The key point is — that smell is impossible to escape once you’re behind them!
Since this is a trail for regular exercise, I encountered two particularly extreme cases today — two female tourists whose perfume was so strong it was as if an entire bottle had spilled at home. They were hundreds of meters ahead of us, yet the smell was so overpowering that we nearly felt sick walking behind them. It was truly, deeply unpleasant.
I sincerely hope some Filipino friends who see this can share it back home — to remind everyone to respect each other’s environment and help create a friendlier, more considerate atmosphere —...
Read morea pair of shoes that fits and handles slippery muddy surfaces well is necessary if the matcha cones at the peak is your goal. i don't exercise at all and struggled to catch my breath, wondering how i'd get back down in my sneakers, throughout the last 1.6km up (a pair of cheap gloves proved helpful later for slippery downward-sloping steps)
from wufengqi parking to the peak, this is the approximate time i took: 0845 - 1125; return: 1140 - 1410
the locals are super friendly with fellow hikers. they use poles for support and recommend it (although i saw a couple of chirpy, seemingly featherlight boys who casually bounced their way up and down completely unfazed by the elevation/ground condition. they even dressed like they're running in summer and carried absolutely nothing). i saw recommendations for bringing a good amount (1.5l) of water online but i didn't and wouldn't - i only drank about 200 - 300ml throughout since it was winter and...
