For foreign travelers, if you have enough time to experience natural things, then Suao Cold Spring is a place that worth to spend few hours on it. Suao is a small town in Yi-Lan county. While most visitors focusing on heading to Taroko National Park, many people may neglect this unique natural gift from Mother Gaia.
So far the cold Spring can only be found in two places of the world; one is Sicily, Italy, and another is Suao, Taiwan. The Cold Spring gushes 100 square meters of underground water per hour, and the temperature is always 21℃, which makes it a perfect “low temperature spring” on scalding summer days. For local residents, it is a suitable place that for family and friends to go.
Right now the cold spring has been maintained and developed with several facilities by the government. It offers public pool for people in summer (visitors need to wear swimming suit) and individual rooms for all the seasons. Price is good and reasonable. Just reminding don't forget to prepare towel and personal items in advance. If you don't have it, you may get it at the front desk.
After taking the cold spring, visitors can drive to the port where has fresh sea food off the board. Finally, buying some bubble soda or gelatinized red-bean cake is a good idea to ended up the visiting since Suao is famous for its pure, good quality water to produce food long time...

Amazing that it’s only one of 2 natural cold springs in the world (other one is in Italy). Unfortunately, the last several years, they have failed to properly maintain the place. Water is dirty and facility isn’t maintained. I don’t know if it was due to Covid but it’s already been a couple of years since Covid and still no improvements. The only option is to pay a high price for the RSL hotel where they offer the water to bathe in when you rent a room. It’s such a shame. I hope they make...
Read moreThe cold springs park is closed until winter 2018 and they have very little signage or warning about it. The only part of the cold springs that was open was some private pools in the back, still worth checking out if you never been, but I was utterly disappointed that the big public outdoor pools were gone! They ripped out the whole park and are rebuilding. It's much better to be in the cold spring with the sun shining on you then being in the roofed private tubs. They said they'll have hot pools now too. I guess being one of the only two cold springs in the world isn't good enough. They want to compete with Jiaoxi hot...
