A fun and challenging hike. Be sure to wear hiking shoes as the trail is uphill and rocky, with a couple tangling roots that might trip you. After about an hour and half of hiking you'll reach a wooden bridge that looks like it was built very recently. After about 10 minutes on the bridge, you'll hit the gorgeous waterfall.

Butterfly Valley Waterfall got its name because the cliff faces look like butterfly wings. It's definitely a serene place where a lot of hikers sit to enjoy the view or eat their lunch after hiking (sandwiches, instant noodles, fruits).

If it's warm enough you'll be able to swim. We went in November and got to the waterfall after 12pm, so it was a little too cold and windy for us to swim. I think warmer months or getting there before the place is in shade, you'll be able to jump in the small lake/rivers!

There's two routes to take to get to the waterfall, one that's longer through the mountain, and one that goes directly there. Make sure to...

Im from San Francisco California USA I took the 805 bus from Taichung and it took 3 hours by bus to get to the orange bridge. It took another hour just to walk to the beginning of the trail. Upon walking to the trail several hikers told me that the bridge had collapse due to the latest Typhoon. Typhoon Koinu??? The trail up was a difficult climb. It was slippery and wet. The path was narrow. I hiked about 2 hours and had to turn back because I ran out of daylight. My advice is to start real early. Bring head worn flashlights. Bring water, at least 2 bottles of water. Bring snacks and food like sandwiches. Wear comfortable shoes with good grip so you wow t slip. Difficult...

The waterfall is really nice and peaceful yet full of adventures. Each way you need to hike from 1.5hrs to 2hrs. Terrain is up and down and slippery during rainy season.

Water flow is not that really strong but still need to be precautious due to some slippery rocks.

Be prepared with good friction shoes and take precautions while hiking.

I went on a rainy day, it was fun & I met only 3 other groups during a long weekend. It is recommended for beginners who wants to test...
