This is a combination garden park and memorial to Chiang-kai Shek. The garden has running stream and pond (inhabited by black & white geese). Chiang’s mausoleum is also here. There are regularly scheduled changing of the guards. There are many statues of Chiang and a few statues of Sun Yat-sen. My friend told me the statutes of both Sun (father of the Republic of China) and Chiang were moved here because most Taiwanese did not want these statues in their local cities, towns, schools, … I thought Sun and the Nationalists represented China’s attempt to create representative government with a republican structure. But that is not how the Taiwanese people see it. One thing is true. Taiwan has representative government now which means something was accomplished. The Nationalists were voted out. Another political party was voted in. On mainland China no one got a vote. As an American I think government by the people, for the people, & of the people is very difficult. But the other choice is a step backward. The people of Europe fought from 1789 to 1945 to achieve government of the people. The road was bloody, but freedom is not free. 1-2 countries in Far East Asia have achieved democracy. At...

I was never a great student in school but everything about the Chinese Civil War and the main players Mao and Chiang interest me. I did a history protect on Mao and gang of four when I was 15 but I didn't know much about the nationalist side and Chiang until I went to Taiwan last year visiting most of the Nationalist war shrines and monuments and staying for 2 or so hours learning and reading about the Nationalist and there involvement in WW2 Philippines as a half Filipino I find that interesting. People my age only do YouTube videos on food. I regret not seeing Chiang's tomb and where he is buried, I've heard about it and hopefully next year I'll pay respect to him and do the bow while respecting customs even though he is a "polarising" figure of 20th century history. I don't agree on the things he did up till his death in 1975 but I do like that he saved Chinese traditional culture you see in Taiwan today. I do try to not look at it as black & white and agree with other reviewer Juan Lima. He was a friend of US General Douglas MacArthur. Next year I'll see his tomb and visit Kinmen Island and overlook Fujian province and Xiamen in...

One of the most special spots which everyone need to visit in Taiwan. it combines beautiful Nature of Taiwan togethet with eclectic not always easy understandable history of Taiwan(previously Formosa) Chiang Kaishek Mausoleum (which is one of his residences before) and big park with lake surrounding it plus historical grimace of Chiangs Cult Statues which were brought here after democratization of Taiwan adds more uniqueness to this worth-visit place. its a-must visit place on all of my taiwan...

The CIHU mausoleum is definitely the best place to learn more about Taiwanese history under the reign of the KMT Chiang Kai- shek. I stayed at a hostel in Taoyüan” Your HOMES” and the host gave me a clear history background about him and makes everything so much more understandable. The statue park is really worth visiting( the statues were originally established in all levels of school, but then ppl protested against it) A great day trip destination!
