Beiguan Tidal Park — Attraction in Toucheng Township

An old fisherman's market transformed to a tourist attraction. The north eastern coast of Taiwan was famous for breeding abalone and lobster, and fishing. Beiguan was a market place that the fishermen and the breeders gathered and selling their catch. Then more and more small fish harbors and the coastal express way were built. The catches could be transported to the major cities like Taipei more rapidly. Beiguan gradually lost its position as a market. 北關公園又稱蘭城公園，地處臺灣東北角沿岸，位於頭城鎮更新里，南端設有南關，遙相呼應，成為進出蘭陽的門戶，是一座景觀豐富的海濱公園。北關原為滿清時期的一座關卡，嘉慶年間清政府鑑於此地地形為防止盜匪進入宜蘭的最佳關隘，而奏請設立駐兵關卡。公園裡立有兩尊古砲，據說是清代嘉慶年間所鑄造的古物。公園內有經過千萬年沖刷而成的單面山、豆腐岩、小海岬等自然石岩景觀，石岩林立，堪稱東海岸特殊的景觀。在巨石與山勢對峙中，並設有階梯、步道和觀海涼亭，園中處處展現海濱特有奇景。由觀海臺上南望，可遠眺龜山島及蘭陽平原，近看則驚濤拍岸，氣象萬千，蘭陽八景中的「北關海潮」即指此地。

位於頭城小鎮，地處東北角沿岸，這座海濱公園擁有豐富壯麗的山海景觀，也成為北濱公路上的秘境景點之一！園內礁岩林立，可觀賞經過千萬年沖刷而成的單面山、豆腐岩、小海岬等地質風貌，在巨石與山勢之間，也設有階梯洄瀾、步道和觀海涼亭，步道小徑依地勢蜿蜒而上，引領來訪旅人穿越雙岩夾峙的一線天。身處幽靜的海潮公園，陽光穿越夾道樹林變得溫和舒服，一邊傾聽海浪拍打岩石的浪濤聲，一邊在崎嶇礁石間巡賞海濱特有奇景，頗有一番滋味。

步行至高處的觀海亭，遠眺可清楚一覽蘭陽平原、龜嶼佳景和外澳海上景致，近看則驚濤拍岸，氣象萬千，景色壯麗，蘭陽八景中的「北關海潮」非浪得虛名，也因此自古即有「蘭城鎖鑰扼山腰，雪浪飛騰響怒潮」之名句，形容海潮澎湃壯闊的景致。
