Read moreFantastic tourism destinations with the real feeling of nature walk and jungle trekking. The ice cap and vegetation zone of the mountain provide a stunning experience, including bird species and wild plants along the trek ⛰️. Arusha National Park, nestled in northeastern Tanzania, is a captivating and remarkably diverse protected area, despite its relatively small size of approximately 137 square kilometers. Situated close to Arusha city, it serves as a popular and accessible starting point for safari adventures. The park's distinct beauty lies in its three prominent features: the majestic Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest peak, offering challenging climbs and breathtaking vistas; the verdant, marshy Ngurdoto Crater, often likened to a "Little Ngorongoro" due to its rich wildlife within a natural basin; and the picturesque Momella Lakes, a chain of seven shallow, alkaline bodies of water teeming with thousands of colorful flamingos and other waterbirds. While not a "Big Five" destination in the traditional sense, Arusha National Park is renowned for its abundant populations of giraffes, Cape buffalo, zebras, and particularly the striking black-and-white colobus monkeys. Its unique appeal also stems from the varied activities it offers, including serene canoeing safaris on the Momella Lakes, exhilarating walking safaris with armed rangers, and multi-day treks up Mount Meru, providing a more immersive and intimate wildlife experience than typical...
Read moreOverpriced, inflexible, and underwhelming. If you are only making a day trip for trekking, you will pay close to 100 USD (45 daily conservation fee + 5 driver entrance + 9 vehicle entry + 20 walking fee + VAT = 92 USD), and will furthermore be limited to 4 hours of walking, 3/4 of which are on a road that is also used by 4x4s which roar past every so often. When paying, I was not told there were options for "short walk" (4 hours), and could not change this after arriving at the location where you pick up your "guide" (Momela Gate). Furthermore, I was not given a choice of where to walk, but told by the guard that the itinerary for a "short walk" was fixed. To add insult to injury, the guide was close to useless: did not know more than the most basic facts about local fauna/flora/ecosystems, and could not keep up with my walking pace. Please understand that I am a huge fan of the mountains of northern Tanzania, and have enjoyed my visits to other parks and place in Tanzania over the years. But this visit to Arusha NP was extremely disappointing. I don't think I will give TANAPA any more...
