THE BEST PART OF OUR SAFARI TRIP (unplanned)! (Sep 2024)

We booked a luxury safari trip through one of the big tour companies and arrived a few days early to recover from travel before our big tour. We decided to take a local tour offered through Viators.

Honestly, it was one of the highlights of our entire trip and gave us a close-up look at the local area of Arusha. We walked through the village with our guide pointing out various flora and fauna and explaining an average day in the life of locals.

We ended up at the home of the host for a lesson in making coffee and a wonderful home cooked meal.

Finally, we made our way to a wonderful and secluded waterfall, which we more or less had to ourselves. My wife lost her footing on some boulders and the guides kept their cool and took great care to make sure she was OK and well cared for. We got very lucky that it was not worse, and that she was able to walk out on her own as we were deep in a valley.

[SIDE NOTE: Be careful and keep close attention to your footing. Bring your own first aid kit (and carry it with you) to Africa with you just for this reason].

We are in our early 60’s in average “American” health. The hike was at a good pace (not too rushed or too slow). The hardest part was walking up the many stairs out of the waterfall area where we had to stop for a few rest periods, especially with my wife’s head injury.

The best part of this side tour (as compared to our luxury tour), nothing seemed staged or rushed. Sure, the big game tours were amazing, but when I think of Africa, I think of this tour and our guides.

The guides were super friendly and very casual, but well organized and knowledgeable. They took the time to understand us, our interest and adjusted the tour as needed. It was like hanging out with your friends for several hours.

We 100% recommend...

This tour deserved 6 stars but I'm only allowed to give 5.... To put it simply, the tour is EPIC and a gem. This is not just a coffee tour: It is a mini introduction to the heart of Arusha - villages filled with warm people, colorful stories, vibrant colors, and innovative techniques. We started out on a trip to the river where we passed through banana plant farms and learned about the brilliant farming techniques. On the way you pass by a daycare that this awesome company supports. The kids in this daycare are spectacular . They're smart, sweet and pure. Ask them to count to 20 for you! Following that we returned for an extremely thorough and incredibly fun coffee tour from tree to cup. This is not just explantation and practice- it's a show involving music, dancing and delightful coffee smells. After drinking coffee, you'll eat a fresh lunch, look at local art and get to know some of the cool people working with the company. The day is not over though.... You then are whisked away to a hidden waterfall where you can climb rocks and trees and swim. Finally, you're led up a little mountain to a swing that overlooks the city. While on the swing you'll feel like a bird taking flight. How can all of this be in just one tour?? You'll have to sign up to find out. I'm sure at the end you'll also feel that the tour deserves 6/5 stars.

Special note to: Praylord and Freddy- these guys are AWESOME and made us feel right at home. They are excellent guides and brilliantly cool people. The rest of their team is right there with them - full of personality and knowledge. We loved them all This is not just a coffee tour our takes you on a journey- not just a coffee toura village that includes farms of banana plants and coffee trees, bubbling brooks and rivers, joyful daycares, colorful houses and artwork and...

July 2024 Amazing Village Tour and Waterfall Visit Mount Meru, Arusha

We had a wonderful time on our tour of the village in Mount Meru and the visit to the waterfall. Anderson and PrayLord did an excellent job of showing us the community. Their deep knowledge and passion for the area made the experience incredibly enriching. We learned all about local plants, animals, village life and even how biogas is made. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and coffee making lesson.

The tour provided a unique opportunity to see the community and experience it first-hand. The waterfall was breathtaking and the kids enjoyed swinging on the swing hung from a tree. The walk through the village gave us a genuine insight into the local way of life. We were warmly welcomed by everyone we met, and it was a privilege to learn about their culture and traditions.

Overall, this tour exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Arusha who wants an authentic and...

This tour in my native village on Mount Meru was a profound journey reconnecting me with the rich history, cultural vibrancy, and environmental splendor of my homeland. As we trekked to the awe-inspiring waterfall, I felt a deep sense of belonging to the land that has shaped my family for generations. We shared insights into the community's past, highlighting its resilience and unique identity. Our tour delved into the intricate process of coffee cultivation, showcasing the region's esteemed coffee beans and their global reputation. Sampling the distinct flavors of locally brewed coffee is an integral aspect of our heritage. Above all, the tour emphasized the harmonious coexistence of Mount Meru's pristine environment and cultural legacy, underscoring the importance of sustainable practices and preservation efforts in this cherished landscape.
