We had an amazing tour with Maturuni Village Experinces!
We did the Maturuni waterfall and coffee tour and it was so much fun. Our driver to the Maturuni Village was great; he was very prompt and courteous and picked us up at our hotel. He gave lots of information on the way, including trees/plants and other interesting information.
When we arrived in Maturuni, we met our guide, Saudi. He was great! We initially hiked to the waterfall, and he was helpful in showing us all of the flowers and trees along the way. The waterfall was very impressive, and the pool at the bottom was cold. We didn't swim, but a few others did. On the return hike we bought souvenirs from the local Chagga people; bring extra $ (small bills are needed) so you can too. Its a great place to support!
It was a short drive to the coffee farm, which was a lot of fun. We got to see the entire process, and were able to grind and brew our own cups. The coffee was outstanding! We also tried the banana beer, which you should too. Truthfully, we enjoyed the banana wine purchased on the waterfall hike quite a bit more, but are still glad we tried it.
The Village tour concluded with an amazing lunch. Super tasty food served by very kind people, and we were very impressed with both the food and the people we shared it with. There was so much to eat, and we enjoyed the traditional Tanzanian dishes.
We bought coffee while we were there, and it's exciting to be able to bring it home. We brought enough $ so we could buy lots of things in the village because we think its important to support the locals.
Maturuni Village Experinces does an incredible job offering excellent tours, and equally so developing sustainable tourism with the Chagga people.
We are very thankful for our guide Saidi for providing such a great day. We highly recommend you...

My visit to Materuni Village was nothing short of magical. Nestled at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, this village offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality.
From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the serene environment and the lush green landscapes. The weather was refreshingly cool, thanks to the vibrant natural vegetation surrounding the village. The locals are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home.
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the stunning Mnambe Waterfalls. The sight of the cascading water amidst the greenery was breathtaking, and the short hike to the falls added an element of adventure.
Another unforgettable experience was visiting the coffee farm. Learning about the coffee-making process, from picking the beans to brewing a cup, was both educational and delightful. The traditional songs and dances accompanying the process added a unique and joyful touch to the experience.
The food in Materuni is a treat for the taste buds. I had the pleasure of trying traditional Chagga dishes, which were flavorful and made from fresh, local ingredients. To top it off, I enjoyed a taste of mbege, the local banana beer, which was a unique and refreshing experience.
Materuni Village is a true gem for those seeking an authentic cultural and natural adventure. It’s more than just a visit—it’s an experience that stays with you. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Moshi or exploring the wonders...
Read moreWe expected to see the Waterfall but got a full blown cultural experience that we will remember for a long time! William was a fantastic tour guide and showed us the way to the impressive waterfall, while giving context about the local vegetation. It’s best to bring good hiking shoes because the way there can be quite muddy if it rained before, as was the case for us. Otherwise, they also have rainboots to borrow, but hiking boots should offer better grip. We then went to the lunch place to have a local meal starting with soup first, then a rice and beef dish and a fruit plate as dessert. The food was tasty and really authentic, I especially liked the beef dish. The last part was the coffee experience which really surpised! We first got an intro into coffee making and then went through all the steps (except the 3 werks drying in the sun of course) by ourselves. It was fascinating to see the process from raw coffee beans to an actual cup of delicious coffee. The locals really celebrate this process singing along the coffee making which was a really lovely experience. While making coffee we also got our shoes cleaned from the mud for a small tip. We ended the day with a beautiful view of Kilimanjaro, truly a...
