Hakuna Matata Spice Farm – Surprisingly Fun & Interactive!
I’ll be honest—I thought this would be just another typical tour, but I was totally wrong! It turned out to be an insightful and hands-on experience that engages all your senses. Instead of just looking at spices, you actually touch, smell, and taste them, making you appreciate the everyday spices we often take for granted.
Our guide and his assistant were informative and pleasant, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. They explained everything in an engaging way, and you could tell they really knew their stuff.
The highlight? The coconut tree climber! Not only does he scale the tree like it’s nothing, but he also puts on a great show, making the experience even more entertaining.
There’s also a shop where you can buy fresh spices and fragrances, so if you want to take some authentic Zanzibar flavors home, this is the perfect place.
Bonus tip: The farm is on the way to Jambiani or Paje, so it’s a great stop if you're heading in that direction.
Bottom line? Way more interesting than expected—a fun, sensory-filled experience with great guides that’s well...
Read moreWe had an excellent time visiting the farm, with our guide speaking perfect French for the tour and explaining in depth about all spices/plants we could see, even quizzing us on our learnings :). Then you are taken through a degustation of fruits, some of which were uncommon for us so it was really interesting (such as red bananas, some specific Tanzanian citrus). We also were lucky to see a couple of monkeys during the visit. Overall it was a great experience. You can also buy spices to support the farm (and we thought the prices were fair, it is much cheaper than what you can find in Europe and it supports many...). We were told about tips only once, at the end of the visit and it was brought up as welcomed tips not mandatory. I find the comments on tipping from other people extremely unfair, the visit is great, with great explanations and lasts for at least an hour (ours was even longer) and visiting the farm is otherwise free so obviously it's...
Read moreWas very interesting to find out so much about spices, however we had a guide that was supposed to speak italian but his italian wasn't that good, so lots of times we were confused by what he wanted to say. He couldn't answer the few questions we had (like how big the farm was). The tour did feel a bit rushed, our lasted one hour, and that they only cared about making money and receiving a tip, which they made sure they got (they kept mentioning it and asking for it). They wanted us to tip the three people taking us around the farm (guide, trainee, one guy that was getting and opening the spices for us), the guy that climbed the tree and opened the coconut for us, the guy that cut fruit for us... We didn't know they were supposed to serve food, we only got fruit.
We are happy we did a spice tour because it was interesting, but our experience wasn't too nice. Our guide took us there, we didn't know the...
