This is a fantastic little place to stop. We visited while travelling from east coast of Zanzibar to Stone Town. We gave Juani Forest a miss after mixed reviews and opted for this instead. $7 per person entry which goes directly to support local butterfly farmers and the community. A brief but a detailed discussion about the life cycle of butterflies and how they're farmed here, with lots of items to look at including the most incredible shiny golden chrysalis! You can then wander around the netted garden for as long as you want admiring the plants and butterflies and any other creatures you may find! There's also another section outside the butterfly garden where they move the chameleons to (so they don't eat the butterflies) and we were able to hold a chameleon and watch them change colour. 100%...

The butterfly centre was a beautiful experience. After arrival, the guide offered a detail explanation about the life of butterflies and how the centre works.

After that, we entered the garden, which is a piece of forest with a nice fountain covered with a net, so the butterflies can wonder around without escaping. We had the chance to see the cocoons and it was wonderful to just be there and enjoy how they fly around and even, if you stay still and silent, they come and lay on you. You can remain in the garden as long as you want.

And the best part of it is that the admission fees directly support the community, training butterfly farmers and...

The centre has a nostalgic feel especially when you think of butterflies and the beauty they add in nature..we were looking forward to a step back in nature and experiencing this in their natural environment..the host was knowledgeable especially in explaining the life cycle and showing us around but unfortunately the centre has a neglected look. The place is abit run down and even the butterfly sighting wasn't as expected which was disappointing as the uniqueness of it would have made the experience worth the entrance fee paid. The place has potential and most people would identify with the magical feeling of being in nature surrounded by the beautiful...

Paid 15k shilling pp. We recently visited this beautiful local indigenous garden and had a wonderful time! I appreciated the opportunity to hold the camaleons - it was a unique experience. However, I did feel that the tour could be improved by providing more specific information about the local wildlife, particularly the different butterfly species. One important note: please be extremely careful when entering the camaleon enclosure, as it's easy to accidentally step on them. Overall, I would still recommend this garden to nature lovers and those looking for an authentic local experience.

It's neat in concept. Great way for locals to make money by farming butterflies/cocoons. They sit you down for ten minutes and teach you about a catepillar-butterfly life cycle, and then bring you to a huge tent where butterflies fly freely. The plants are nice. Nice place to stop for thirty minutes. Price is roughly $6. They have a chameleon exhibit too, which I didn't visit. The butterfly center is not worth making a specific trip to, but if you happen to pass by and have some time on your hands, it's a nice visit you can say you did.
