I have been visiting Pong Phra Bat Hot Springs for several years now, on every trip we make to ChiangRai. We LOVE the place! But it is not fancy okay. Not hoity toity. But it is relaxing and comfortable. There are several things you can do when you visit:
Soak your feet in the outdoor foot pool while you let your children play in the kiddie pool.
Rent a private room with a pool. The small room with a pool that's just right for two people is 40 baht each. I do believe they have a medium-sized pool which can fit maybe four. And a large one that can fit maybe ten people.
You can rent towels, buy soap and shampoo and salt scrubs.
Exercise. They have a pond with a stone path around it that's good for jogging or brisk walking. They also have some outdoor exercise machines.
Get a massage. They very busy though so it might be safe to call in advance and book a schedule. The massages are very affordable. We had 1.5 hours Thai massage for P230 baht each.
Enjoy the beauty of the place. They have the pond, a couple of stone dinosaurs (lol), a garden with orchids, lots of trees with stone tables and chairs where you can chill and enjoy a snack from one of the kiosks in the parking area.
We love this place and never tire of...
Read moreAfter a long motorbike day this hot spring was wonderful. It was easy to park our motorbike here and we were greeted by the outdoor smaller pools which had a fair few people in there and the hot water fountain. The area here did smell like sulphur which was not an issue. The pools outside are free but there was one large outdoor pool which was 20B. We opted to go into a bathhouse which was 80B for 30 mins for two people. There were two bathhouses a new and old one. We loved the private bathhouse, the water can be adjusted to the temperature you like with a hot and cold tap. 30 minutes is enough as the hot water definitely takes it out of you! There is a section here too for massages and near the front there are places to eat.

Read moreGreat place to relax for an hour or two. Several hot pools from temperate up to 53.2°C (cook an egg, anybody?). It opens early morning (not sure of the exact time but certainly at/before 7am) until, I'm told, 8pm. A very relaxed, informal atmosphere. Be sure to wear (at least) shorts/yoga pants and t-shirt; western style swimwear would be frowned on. There seem to be no changing facilities so come in whatever you want to wear in the water and be prepared to go home wet. On the other hand it's all free of charge. There are also possibilities for walking and gentle jogging. Update: we've recently started enjoying their onsen facility - private rooms for 2-3 and 4-10 people with a sunken concrete bath - which allows us to get the full benefits of the water. Prices currently 100 baht for a small room, 400 for the big ones. Water additives are...
