A Peaceful and Less Touristy Temple in Krabi

Wat Sai Thai is a small but beautiful Buddhist temple located just outside Krabi Town. Unlike the more famous Wat Tham Suea, this temple offers a quieter and more local experience, making it a great stop for those looking to explore Krabi’s cultural side without the crowds.

Highlights of Wat Sai Thai

✅ Reclining Buddha Statue – The temple’s main attraction is a striking golden reclining Buddha nestled under a large rock formation. It’s a unique sight and offers a peaceful setting for reflection and photography.

✅ Serene Atmosphere – Since it’s not overrun with tourists, Wat Sai Thai provides a more authentic and tranquil experience, perfect for those seeking a spiritual or cultural visit.

✅ Easy Accessibility – Located along the road between Krabi Town and Ao Nang, it’s a convenient stop if you’re traveling between these areas. It doesn’t require a long climb or hike, making it accessible to all visitors.

Things to Keep in Mind • Short Visit – Unlike larger temples, Wat Sai Thai is a small site, so you don’t need more than 20–30 minutes to explore it. • Respectful Dress Code – As with all temples in Thailand, it’s important to dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees) out of respect for local traditions.

Final Verdict

Wat Sai Thai is a hidden gem that offers a peaceful break from Krabi’s busier attractions. While it’s not as grand as some other temples, its serene setting and impressive reclining Buddha make it well worth a quick visit.

Rating: 4/5 – A great cultural stop for those...

Peaceful, Local, Charming

Wat Sai Thai is a lovely little temple that’s perfect for a quick stop if you’re in the area. It’s not on the same grand scale as the famous temples in Bangkok, but it has its own charm and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it worth visiting. The architecture and statues are beautifully maintained, and it feels very much like a local temple rather than a big tourist attraction, which adds to the authenticity.

What I liked most is that you can experience it without crowds, taking a few quiet moments to look around and appreciate the details. It’s a nice spot to connect with the local culture and enjoy a break from the busier parts of Krabi.

Tips for visitors: Since it’s a smaller temple, you don’t need a lot of time here — 10 to 20 minutes is plenty. Be respectful when entering and dress modestly as you would at any Thai temple. If you’re passing nearby on your way to Ao Nang or other attractions, it’s definitely worth the stop.

Overall, Wat Sai Thai might be small, but it’s a place full of local character and peaceful vibes. A nice little detour that adds an authentic moment to your...

A quiet and nice temple area with an interesting natural cave where statues are placed and a hidden pathway to a platform with a nice view. The pathway to the platform is well hidden and not easy to find. When you go up the stairs from the right side of the mountain, you've got to walk up a steep muddy hill on the right hand side through the jungle and climb on all fours in some places. The climb isn't long, only a few minutes, but not suitable for elderly or people with...

A small temple, the main attraction of which is the reclining Buddha. When we visited it, it was completely empty. There were incense, candles and a lighter next to the Buddha, if you want to pray here. Everything is absolutely free, only for your donation. There are also several statues nearby and a couple of graves. In general, a visit will take half an hour at most and you can stop here on the way from Ao Nang to the tiger temple. A quiet and beautiful place!
