There isn’t any legend that can tell the exact establishment year of the temple. However, it was probably built in the period of King Saenmuang, the 7th king of Chiang Mai. At first, Wat Phrathat Chom Mon was only an ordinary monk house and an abandonded temple. Later, some monks from other temple traveled to Wat Phrathat Chom Mon to stay there during the Buddhist Lent. From then on, the temple has been renovated and re-decorated. Finally, it became a temple legally. Nowadays, it looks quite beautiful. In fact, Wat Phrathat Chom Mon is also known as ‘Wat Pho Mho Lo’, called by villagers. The architectures at Wat Phrathat Chom Mon are mostly Chinese, Thai, and Lanna. These are interesting contemporary artworks. You should love this. Get your camera ready, wander around, and take a lot of photos. All architectures are neat and beautiful. There are sculptures on the ubosot, Naga statues as handrails, statues of Chinese god and goddess, Buddha statues, and so on. The area around Wat Phra That Chom Mon is a community of Karen people. You may want to take a look. That’s find. If you see any of them, just say ‘hello’ to them and try to make a friendly conversation....

Came here mid day expecting to see a crowded temple like the other popular ones. To my surprise I was the only one at the temple for a while. When you drive in the gate you can continue straight to drive to the top or you can park and walk up the stairs to the left. The stairs were mossy and winded through a nice forest before making it to the top. I would recommend this because the view feels more rewarding after giving a little effort. Panoramic views of the mountains and town. Very nice for a...

Chommon Pagoda: a magnificent place on the hill overseeing Mae Sariang town. Beautiful temple and hill top pagoda. A nice hike from town to here about 3.0km to the temple before another hike up 800m to the top 338 steps. Wonderful and peaceful place to be at.

The white temple and the view is worth the visit and the climb, but for me the highlight was the moss-covered steps through the trees in the rainy low season. It was almost magical. That added another star for me.
