I played out at Nikanti a few weeks ago early on a Friday morning. I set up my tee time using a tour company since I was by myself and didn't know if the course would allow a single player to make a tee time. When I arrived at the course the staff in the pro shop were welcoming and got me set up with a set of demo clubs to use. I was then ushered toward the locker room to change my shoes and put my belongings into a locker. Once I finished up in the locker room I was offered breakfast, but passed since I had already eaten. From there I was taken down to the practice putting green to be introduced to my caddie "Kwang".
Kwang handed me a putter and had me putt for about 10 minutes before we headed off to the first tee. I really enjoyed playing the course. It was challenging enough, but also visually appealing with many photogenic holes. The condition of the course was nearly perfect with the fairways feeling like a nice carpet, and the greens were very true and fast.
Kwang was very pleasant and attempted to help me with the greens. I took her advice many times and it played out well enough. For club selection I feel that she defaulted to clubs that maybe she was trained for regarding the yardage. The driver was always handed to me on every hole except for the par 3's, and on a few I chose to hit an iron instead. On one hole I hit behind a tree that was in the middle of the fairway and had about 100 yards to the green, but had low hanging branches in the way. Kwang handed me a PW, but I handed it back and asked for a 5 iron. She looked bemused, but after I hit a short punch shot to within 10 feet of the hole she laughed and said she'd remember that for the next player. Her attitude was great and definitely made the round more enjoyable.
The demo clubs were a set of Titleist irons and woods. I play Taylor Made irons with Callaway woods so I wasn't sure how the different clubs would feel, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well I was able to hit them. My only nit about the clubs is that a 4 iron was the longest iron. I'm used to having a 2 and 3 iron to choose from so there were a few shots that I probably forced with the 4 iron, but got away with. The putter was a Scotty Cameron blade and that was okay, but not the feel of the Odyssey putter I'm used to. Some of the greens are huge so gauging speed was a bit tricky with the demo putter.
My only complaint, and this is not the course's fault, but playing as a single player my round was completed in about 2 hours. While that may be great for some, I would have liked to have the round drawn out a bit so I could take more of it in.
My trip to BKK was for about 10 days and this outing was on the first morning I had arrived. I managed to get out again for a second round the day before flying back home and the experience was very similar. Quick 2 hour round, but had a great time. "Apple" was my caddie on the 2nd go around. The next time I'm in Bangkok I'll look to...
ย ย ย Read moreThis was my second time playing at Nikanti Golf Club, and once again, it truly lived up to its motto โBe Delighted by Usโ. I was absolutely delighted.
Having played here last year, I found this round even more enjoyable, shaving off at least 10 strokes made it all the more satisfying. The entire experience, from start to finish, reflects thoughtful design and genuine hospitality.
A major highlight is the all-inclusive package, which includes breakfast and lunch (or lunch and dinner for afternoon tee times). The food was excellent and adds great value to the overall experience. The pro shop is well-stocked with premium brands like J.Lindeberg and G/Fore for those looking to shop before or after their round.
The clubhouse is elegant and welcoming, and the locker room facilities are luxurious, perfect for a refreshing clean-up post-game.
As for the course itself, the layout is both fun and challenging, with a well-balanced mix of water hazards and undulating terrain. Fairways were pristine, while the rough provided a solid test of skill. It's a course that rewards smart play and keeps you engaged throughout.
What truly sets Nikanti apart, though, is the exceptional caddie experience. The caddies here are not only knowledgeable and professional but also warm, engaging, and genuinely invested in making your round enjoyable. They are, in many ways, the heart of the Nikanti experience, living proof of Thailandโs renowned hospitality.
I look forward to returning again. Nikanti is more than just a golf course, itโs a complete and memorable...
ย ย ย Read moreOK first off this is a five star facility so why am I giving it only 2 stars? Major disappointment.
We play at Nikanti 5 times a year and know the great experience plus understand the cost. May 1 2018 was a major disappointment.
So May 1 is Labor Day in Thailand = public holiday. Nikanti had closed their course for maintenance over Songkran opening up about 12 days ago at a significant discounted rate due to the maintenance. Somehow the management at the course made an assessment that now the course could now charge peak rates which would make me believe the course conditions were also in peak shape. Well sorry they are not.
I can only suggest the course management is just plain greedy. There is no way the course was anywhere close to peak shape. Greens are the most important part of peak shape and the greens we played on May 1 were far from peak.
While I doubt we will get any reply from the management we will temper our visits and recommendations of Nikanti in the future due to this major...
