I have been waiting to visit the farm for three years as it opens only on a specific period and, finally, I've got a chance! I would say that you will not regret coming all the way here as there are many things you can do in the farm. Also, there are so many photo spots you can find so make sure you're in your best dress and carry a hat or a fan with you around! The staff are mostly the locals and they are really welcoming to the visitors (and some can speak a little of English).
Talking about the food, the farm here provides you authentic Thai dishes that can't be missed so you should have a meal before going around the farm and try to take a water bottle with you as the sun burns and the trees are not really high so there's not much shade you can hide. You can also find fine silk clothings and cotton products at affordable prices here.
Ps. Make sure you arrive on the period when the farm is open book an online ticket before as the one at the door is a little bit pricier come early so the sun is not too hot bring a hat/ fan or something and put on the sunscreen beforehand carry a water bottle with you so you're hydrated...
Read moreOpens annually in Dec-Jan only so it is crowded, lots of locals and foreigners alike. It is slightly out of the way, about 1.5 hours drive away from the usual Khao Yai attraction cluster. A very large semi-touristy farm with different themes in different parts. There is a very large flower / vegetables field for lots of insta-worthy photos. There is also an “Issan village” which is the most educational for city kids, with exhibits of how rice is processed, how silk is produced (including live silkworms and the processing), great Thai food for lunch (the sun-dried pork is a nice crispy snack; som-tam was good as well!), traditional crafts and even live stage shows. There were also wooden “scooters” for the kids (and adults) to play with. Take note that everything is in Thai with very spotty English, so pls do be prepared to just see and understand. It was very very hot, so pls do be prepared with hats and lots of water, which can be easily bought with refundable “cash cards” available for sale at every area. Overall a nice 4-5 hour experience if you want to take your time to take in...
Read moreI visited Jim Thompson farm yesterday and I was quite disappointed. This is my third visit. During my first visit, the weaving village was awesome. In the first house, they had silk worms feeding the Mulberry leaves. Then, we saw the Pupa stage. Then, we saw how silk threads were made from the pupa. Then, how the silk threads were colored and finally the fabric weaving. We used to pass from one house to another - a total of 5 houses. Yesterday, all but only one was opened. We just saw two ladies weaving fabric. All the others were closed. A couple of years ago, the cosmos field was amazing/breathtaking. But, what I saw yesterday was hardly 25% of what I witnessed the year before last. Jim Thompson is not worth a visit from Bangkok. It takes almost 4 hours drive from Bangkok. Not worth...
