Prasat Nang Ram — Attraction in Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Not an easy place to find, due to no signage.

Prasat Nang Ram is situated at Baan Nang Ram, Nang Ram District. Take a highway number 2 (Nakhon Ratchasima – Khon Kaen) and keep going for 62 kilometers until you reach at Baan Wat junction. Turn right to a highway number 207 for 22 kilometers and pass by Baan Yha Kha. Turn left to Prasat Nang Ram entrance for 4 kilometers.

These coordinates will take you to the car parking area by the sanctuary.

This Khmer sanctuary was built in the 13th century A.D. by King Jayavaraman VII of the Khmer Empire. It was a hospital or "Arokayasala" in Mayayna Buddhism. The sanctuary comprise of two groups of buildings.There is one group of pagoda which is in a very good condition, the middle of the pagoda has a terrace which faces the east. There is a monastery made of laterite located on the south west side of the pagoda with the laterite wall enclosed it. The entrance gate of the place is situated on the east and the plan of the place is in a cross sign. There is one man-made pond on the north east of the place. There are three more pagodas located next to Prasat Nang Ram and it lays all over from north to south. While, only the base, the door frame and sandstone lintel are left with the laterite wall and horseshoe-shaped canal.

Wat a surprise This prasat is maybe for the more hardcore. It is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. The roads are terrible. That said,totally worth the visit. This was a hospital station. It is not large. The hospital and the prasat have been rebuilt to a certain extent. The surroundings are well kept.You get an idea of the size and layout of the two buildings. Typical of Khmer architecture water is also a feature. There is a small idol in the stupa,within the prasat,that is being actively worshiped,and most likely under the care of the temple next door. ปราสาทนางรำ มาจากว่า เดิมเคยมีรูปนางรำ เป็นหินสีเขียวทำแบบเทวรูป ปราสาทนางรำเป็นโบราณสถานสมัยขอมที่เรียกว่าเป็น อโรคยาศาล (โรงพยาบาล) สร้างขึ้นในราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ 18 ในสมัยพระเจ้าชัยวรมันที่ 7 ที่มาของชื่อปราสาทนางรำมาจาก เดิมเคยมีรูปนางรำ เป็นหินสีเขียวทำแบบเทวรูป อยู่ทางทิศตะวันตกของวิหารห่างไป 1.5 กิโลเมตร ปัจจุบันเหลือแต่ร่องรอยของเทวสถานและแท่นหิน ที่นี่ประกอบด้วยกลุ่มโบราณสถาน 2 กลุ่มตั้งอยู่ใกล้เคียงกัน กลุ่มปรางค์ที่สมบูรณ์กว่าหลังอื่นประกอบด้วยปรางค์องค์กลาง มีมุขยื่นออกไปข้างหน้าหันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออก ส่วนทางด้านทิศตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ของปราสาทมีวิหารก่อด้วยศิลาแลงหันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันตก มีกำแพงศิลาแลงล้อมรอบ ส่วนซุ้มโคปุระหรือประตูทางเข้าอยู่ทางด้านทิศตะวันออก มีแผนผังเป็นรูปกากบาท นอกกำแพงด้านทิศตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือมีสระน้ำขนาดเล็กก่อด้วยศิลาแลง ถัดจากปราสาทนางรำไปทางทิศใต้ มีปราสาทอีก 3 หลังเรียงกันในแนวเหนือ-ใต้ ซึ่งเหลือเพียงฐานและมีกรอบประตูและทับหลังหินทรายตั้งแสดงอยู่ มีกำแพงศิลาแลงและคูน้ำรูปเกือกม้าล้อมรอบ ปราสาทนางรำ ตั้งอยู่ที่บ้านนางรำ ตำบลนางรำ ไปตามทางหลวงหมายเลข 2 (นครราชสีมา-ขอนแก่น) ประมาณ 62 กิโลเมตร จนถึงแยกบ้านวัด เลี้ยวขวาเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 207 ไปประมาณ 22 กิโลเมตรถึงบ้านหญ้าคา (หรือก่อนถึงตัวอำเภอประทาย 11 กิโลเมตร) จากนั้นเลี้ยวซ้ายทางเข้าวัดปราสาทนางรำอีก 4 กิโลเมตร
