I visited Sri Ayutthaya Lion Park recently and had a truly memorable experience — both exciting and thought-provoking.

The up-close interactions with animals like giraffes, lions, and tigers are undeniably impressive. Feeding giraffes from the top of a safari jeep was a highlight — they’re gentle giants, curious and charming. However, I did get my finger nibbled a bit hard while feeding carrots (no bleeding, just a surprise!), which reminded me that they are still large wild animals and should be respected as such.

The big cat show featured lions and tigers performing stunts like walking on ropes, rolling over barrels, and jumping through hoops. While it was entertaining for the audience, I couldn’t help but feel concerned about the training methods and the pressure it may put on the animals. These are not natural behaviors, and I believe there’s room to evolve toward more animal-friendly, enrichment-based presentations.

I truly understand the challenges zoos face in sustaining operations and caring for animals. Revenue from tourism is important. But I believe we as visitors can help by supporting facilities that prioritize animal welfare, natural behavior, and spacious enclosures. I’d love to see this park gradually shift toward a more conservation- and education-focused approach in the future.
