Ta Yai Beach (หาดตายาย) on Koh Larn Island, Thailand, is an absolute gem that took our breath away. Having explored all the beaches on this enchanting island, Ta Yai Beach stood out as our clear favorite.

One of the most striking features of Ta Yai Beach is the peaceful atmosphere it offers. Unlike some of the more crowded beaches, Ta Yai has fewer tourists, providing a more intimate and serene setting. There's only one restaurant, which adds to the charm, and just a single row of beach chairs, making it feel less commercialized – a refreshing change from the norm.

The natural beauty of Ta Yai Beach is simply awe-inspiring. The crystal-clear waters, picturesque rocks, and the surrounding landscapes make it a photographer's paradise. It's the kind of place where every angle is postcard-worthy, and it's easy to lose yourself in the stunning scenery.

One of the best aspects of Ta Yai Beach is its lesser-known status. Its hidden gem status means you can enjoy the beach in a more relaxed and unspoiled environment. It's like having your own private paradise on this island.

The sunset from Ta Yai Beach is nothing short of spectacular. As the sun dips below the horizon, it casts a mesmerizing glow over the water and rocks, creating a truly magical moment that you'll want to savor and capture forever.

In conclusion, Ta Yai Beach (หาดตายาย) is an undiscovered treasure on Koh Larn Island, offering an idyllic blend of tranquility and natural beauty. If you're seeking a beach experience away from the crowds, with stunning vistas and a sense of untouched paradise, Ta Yai Beach is an absolute must-visit destination. We can't wait to return and relive its breathtaking charm.

This beach offers a mixed experience that warrants a moderate 3-star rating, with natural beauty overshadowed by significant cleanliness and atmosphere issues.

The location itself has considerable potential, with natural features that could make for an excellent beach destination. The underlying geography and setting provide a theoretically attractive coastal experience.

However, a major concern is the abundance of dogs that freely defecate in the sand without cleanup. This issue extends beyond a minor inconvenience, as these animals have been observed disturbing visitors' belongings, creating both hygiene and security concerns for personal items.

The atmosphere is further diminished by groups of intoxicated tourists, predominantly Russian, whose excessive drinking creates a sometimes rowdy and uncomfortable environment for visitors seeking a peaceful beach experience.

These behavioral and cleanliness issues significantly impact what could otherwise be an enjoyable natural setting. The combination of uncontrolled dogs and public intoxication creates an atmosphere that falls short of what many beach visitors would hope for.

For those considering Ta Yai Beach, it's worth noting that its natural attributes remain appealing, but the current visitor experience is substantially compromised by these ongoing...

We wanted to see the sunrise. Got up early, 6:30 and we were walking. Whole road to the beach you can explore variety of trash all around the road, so nice to see. 200 meters to the beach and you start to meat aggressive barking dogs, the more you get closer the more stray dogs are there. On the end there was a pack of dogs, circa 10 puppies and 2 parents, super aggressive, from the beginning showing you to get out. Then we hear motorbike. Young couple is parking . The dogs are running towards them , and they are chasing them all the way to the water. Puppies intentionally crashing into their legs while aggressive mama and papa are sniffing your calf from 1 milimeter away. Ready to feed on you if they wish. 5-10 min and couple is back on motorbike.

Tip: Better watch the sunrise from hotel room. On Koh Larn there is a big problem with these stray dogs, was in Bangkok and Pattaya. Stray dogs there too however calm and minding their own bussiness. Here it is whole another story. Dogs are barking at you, bothering everyone around, chasing you, sniffing you, licking you, showing their teeth, puppies chrashing your legs. You can try to ignore them, not working.

NEVER EVER WALK IN EARLY OR LATE HOURS. Packs of those stray dogs are, more active in...

The only beach we liked in Kohlarn, after seeing three or four. There is an adjacent beach to the right where you can find shade and some degree of quietness, the water is clear (we saw different kinds of fishes and even a small manta-ray, so bring goggles) and there's not a lot of people or boats. If you're gonna swim, just be careful with the urchins on the sea floor, which are about 5m from the coast (again, goggles are handy). Not perfect (there's still trash in some places and jet skies passing), but better than the others, in my opinion.

Pretty nice beach. Not too busy. There are a lot of friendly stray beach dogs and lots of cute puppies! Many people come here to take insta pics. It's not crowded tho. We snorkeled along the waterfront. The water is really murky so very poor visibility for snorkeling. There were a handful of live corals but mostly it was a desert. However, there was a fair amount of fish and different species. We saw a shoal of swordfish as well which was cool. We gave some water to the dogs, turns out they were very thirsty!
