To get here by foot you can follow the Google map directions right to the top. If you start in khek noi village it'll be about 10km each way. If you drive as far as you reasonably can before the road starts to ascend dramatically and worsen in condition then it would be about 5-6km.
You can also download the phatad trail gpx files from their Facebook page to find other routes up and down.
You can continue on past doi pha tad to another slightly higher peak which is about 4km North East of here (labelled on maps as Pha Ji Tua Viewpoint).
There are at least 2 routes up to doi pha tad and one of them is gated so you can't get cars or bikes past. But even in dry season you would need a dirt bike to get up. In rainy season when I went at start of June (so before the worst of the rain) I saw a few dirtbikes really struggling to make any progress on the steepest parts. Seems like the best option is to walk as soon as the road starts to deteriorate.
There's trash everywhere as well as many pieces of broken motorbikes.
The summit would be a good place to camp if it wasn't too windy. It's a nice grassy area. There are some cows roaming about.
There is no entrance fee or any staff around. No...

Pretty place, but have to give extreme caution and warnings about the road. I was barely okay with a sedan (Nissan Almera) in good weather. In rain, it would be unsafe in the same car.
The road to it has two routes. One further east, and one further west. The East one passes the Wat-temple, and it is moderately steep. Maybe 8-10%. The West one has steepness of 10% plus, and it is unmarked. They do tell you to use low gear, but this warning is not strong enough.
In wet conditions, I would say the West road is not safe for most tourist vans and small cars. A truck with good traction would be okay. So, just be careful which road you take!
I drove the steep road in Koh Chang okay in my Nissan Almera. The West road is much much worse. That is why I think it is 12%...

Although it was quite hard to reach there, this place is worth it to visit; visibility is clear, the landscape of Khao Kho is so fantastic. If you have opportunity to visit here and love off-road driving, I would like you to...
