We've drive past here many times since coming to Thailand, but this time we were early heading to our destination so we stopped. Not being Buddhist, we did not have a lot of interest in the lower cave with a reclining Buddha and other images. However, we noticed a stairway to the north of the Buddha cave and went up that finding ourselves on a paved trail. We never made it to the end because we saw a broken sign (in Thai) mentioning a cave, so we stepped a few paces of the trail and saw a metal stairway into the cave.

The stairway was in better condition than in some caves I have been. There were lots of openings in the top of the cave, so you did not need a flashlight. Not a lot of stalactites or stalagmites. In the last room there was a set of stair that went steeply to the opening in the top, but we had not brought any water, so we did not go up.

On our way down, there were hundreds of monkeys headed up the hill from the parking lot. It was a bit scary going down because they were all over the stairs and the hillside. But we each grabbed two sticks and held them out in each arm and it kept them away from us.

What a...

Wat Khao Yoi Cave is a limestone cave located in the Khao Yoi district of Phetchaburi province, about 160 kilometers southwest of Bangkok. The cave is a popular destination for tourists who want to explore its natural beauty and learn about its history and cultural significance. It's a nice place to visit when you are on your way to the south of Thailand.

The cave is also important for Buddhists as there's a Buddhist temple located inside the cave. So when entering the cave, people should put off the shoes. However, look out for the monkeys roaming...

Wat Kaho Yoi is located about 24 km north of the city of Phetchaburi in Thailand. The temple in the cave is located on a hill that is very well visible from highway no. 4. This is where King Rama VI practiced meditation when he was ordained. There are at least 7 caves and some of them are interconnected. There are also very beautiful objects nearby, such as the wooden temple visible in the video. The advantage is also the proximity to Bangkok - 112 km. It is definitely a tourist attraction...

This beautifully maintained Wat (Temple) is situated right next to the famous Tham Khao Yoi Cave. The temple is constructed entirely out of wood and has impressive mural scenes. Inside the cave on only a few minutes walking distance, you'll find a 16-meter reclining Lord Buddha, an impressive array of stalagmites and stalactites and you can receive a blessing from a monk. Both locations are well worth a visit. See my review and photos of Tham Khao Yoi for more information on the cave.
