A beautiful place but disgusting service and discriminating treatment. While on a short trip from Bangkok to Khao Yai on Songkran, April 15th (Monday), we stumbled on the signs to Issara Estate Winery, ...we thought to ourselves, we may do some wine tasting there while enjoying the scenery and eventually buy some wine to take home to Bangkok. While we entered the premise with our car, we passed the hotel entrance first heading to the Issara Cafe at the winery. The way to the Cafe was wide open, no gate or signs mentioning opening hours, we were completely alone there, despite seeing some staff walking around the winery, for about 30 mins, waiting for eventually staff coming to serve us or inform us that the premise is closed on Sun-Tue, but none. After that waiting time, we decided to search online for their number and give them a call to find out what's about the Cafe. Like previously mentioned, a lady (Receptionist) took our call from the hotel, telling us, the Cafe is closed Sun-Tue, but we may come to the hotel to enjoy some wine. Because we liked the scenery of the winery, we decided to give them a chance at the hotel. So we drove back to the hotel entrance to find a very empty and quiet hotel, with two staff, the receptionist lady and a man who seemed to be a waiter for the winery. There was a big Terrace for sitting, overseeing the nature, behind the reception but unfortunately not inviting, due to laundry from staff hanging on the fence/edge, ...therefore, instead, we asked if wine tasting was available at the cellar. The waiter confirmed but said the wines were opened for three days (which is also a "faut pas") and the texture of the wine wouldn't be original of course, we tested a Chardonnay and asked whether, we could buy one and enjoy at their widely opened Cafe next to the winery, this was denied due to being closed on three days per week,...then we asked to enjoy the wine at the hotel terrace, which was also not welcomed and we were told, we would have to pay service charge and vat, which was absolutely fine with us, of course, but it seemed, we as guests were inconvenient for them, ...they didn't want to serve us, guests not welcomed, at least in our case... but the biggest "faux pas" was to mention to my wife by the waiter, originally from Isan but living and working in Bangkok for more than two decades, that she could enjoy the Chardonnay with a Somtam Salad, which sounds funny, like a joke at first, but implies discriminatory insult to Isan people, in this case to my wife, for not being knowledgeable enough to appreciate a Chardonnay with dishes traditionally attached to specific wines... unfortunately, after that comment, we had processed the purchase of a Chardonnay for 1300 Baht already. Had we known the disgusting and inflamatory comments, we would not have bought a single wine or do business with the Issara Estate Winery. The Estate is beautiful, but the staff is not service minded and it seemed lazy to serve Walking-in customers. For myself, I am German/French and living in Bangkok and have been to many wine tasting venues/ wineries especially in Germany, France and beyond, worldwide on several occasions. My wife deserves an excuse for that treatment... The nature of the winery is not at fault but it's humans are...As for us, we do not recommend doing business with Issara Estate Winery but everyone needs to find out for...
