A detailed Chang puak elephant camp review.
Location : This camp is located about 30-40 min car ride away from Lee garden area . The drive to the camp is relatively easy . There were some heavy traffic in the city center but once you drove out of the city its quite a relaxing drive . You can visit to this camp on the way to songkla beach however this place is closer to hatyai city center , seaverse cafe (20min), flower garden (2min), khlong hea floting market (20min)compared to songkla beach (30min). The came is about 2 km from the main road . The road is well maintained safe for self driving.
Parking : there is gravel parking right beside the camp. The parking is free . Usually there will be guide to help you park your car . It's possible to see tourists riding the elephant from car park if you park your car at right hand side once you enter the car park.
Entrance fee : there is no entrance fee to enter . Its free to enter but you need to purchase ticked inside if you want to do any activities.
Ootd : there are many ootd places inside the camp . It's free .
Camp build : there are many stations in the camp . There are elephant riding station , elephant feeding , taking pic with elephant, arcade games , bird feeding , taking pic with monkey . Overall the camp is not a rehabilitation center but more like a decorated circus where you pay money to interact with the animals .
Price : its free to enter so it's totally worth it . I don't remember the cost of the package offered. If you are interested you can always spend to support local business and rehabilitation effort. In the end everyone need to make a living.
Wheelchair access. There is no dedicated wheelchair access and wheelchair chair user will face some challenges moving around. Even getting down from car and towards the entrance will be a challenge. Its going to be difficult moving inside the came as well.
Overall : the camp feels smaller than expected however its have more facilities and places to spend time( and money) . You could easily spend 30 min if not taking part in any activities or upto 1 hr if you are riding...
Read moreplease DO NOT visit or support this place, this is literally the definition of a tourist trap. they abuse their elephants and animals. the monkeys you can take pictures with looked so scared when their 'caretaker' came, the baby and mom elephant (that are used for taking photos or feeding) were placed in a tiny cage and chained up super tightly to the ground. you could see that the baby elephant was struggling to eat the bananas as it was chained at the back of the tiny cage. the worst thing here is that their elephants for riding have to carry giant chairs on their backs and carry up to 2 people. these poor elephants are being forced to carry people everyday and the chairs + people + accessories are probably super harmful for their backs as they do this as a daily routine. the person controlling the elephant even continuously kicked the elephant's ear to make it go faster... the elephant is carrying heavy things, of course it's gonna go slow... kicking it just tortures it even more... the poor elephants and animals here are clearly very depressed and unhappy with their environment. all they care about is money as it is VERY OBVIOUS THEY ARE USING THEIR ANIMALS JUST FOR MONEY and commercial purposes ☹️ it is also super expensive and not worth the price + they keep trying to convince you to buy the pictures they take of you at the entrance of the camp. please do not visit this place, not much to do and most definitely NOT deserving or...
Read moreIf this is not animal abuse what is this place? Poor animals stolen from their natural habitat and forced to act and behave certain ways just to make people happy? And people get satisfaction watching these animals suffer? I was taken to this camp by the tour guide as an added bonus to the tour. I had no idea what I was walking into. She just said “ we will see elephants and tigers”. As soon as the car arrived there, a lady opened my door and immediately tagged me with a sticker with numbers written on it. As went inside the camp, I see the poor elephants on concrete and 90 kilos seats on top of them each waiting for people to ride them. One elephant was moving his head right to left right to left… they are bored and unhappy. I immediately told the tour guide I want out of there and I don’t believe in what’s happening here. Then the camp people tried to stop me and started showing pictures with tigers, lions, haters, snakes etc. I was even more disgusted on such behavior. Animals don’t deserve this kind of human use and abuse. They are stolen out of their natural habitats. Stolen from their mother so the camp can make money and people feel good about themselves taking these pictures with them? Come on people!!!! Where is your heart? I would never support a place like this. I left immediately. Please...
