I visited Phu Teoi National Park in August, during the rainy season, based on a recommendation from Gemini for a good weather and scenery experience.
The park staff were friendly and helpful, allowing us to take shelter in a hut during the nonstop rain. The rain continued from midnight until 5 a.m. The campsite was well-maintained, and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean. However, the water supply was off in the morning, and when it came back on, the water was muddy, likely from a nearby river or mountain source.
We took an early morning walk to the pine forest. The drive to the trailhead was about 12 kilometers, and the walk itself wasn't difficult. Most of the path was lined with bamboo, and the pine trees were only at the very end. I was expecting a nice view from the viewpoint, but it was obscured by trees. The hike was cool and pleasant, but given the driving and walking distance, I'd say it's an okay trip—unless you also plan to stop at the plane crash site...
Read moreAs 12th of October, entrance fee is 100 bath for foreigners, 30 bath for camping and 150 for antigen test (buy it and do it yourself). It is a total of 280 THB for setting a tent on the ground.
I really wish there would be some one that thought how absurd it is to charge the entrance fee if you are only going to camp. (Other national parks don't do that).
You need an antigen test, be aware that there's nowhere to do it nearby, or 2 vaccines.
Apparently, they believe in the also aburd that 2 vaccine shots blocks you from infecting other people.
To sum up, I paid a total of 280 bath to camp in this National Park and now I am risking getting infected with the covid that all those who have two vaccines might spread as they are not being tested.
280 bath, look at the picture and...
Read moreI camped one night here. The Park has limited electricity, as they run generators - no lights in the toilets. The camp ground is ok. they have regular toilets (not only squatters! ) There was only one other tent there, so its quiet and peaceful during the week. Around 7km from the entrance is some wreckage of an aeroplane (lauda air; bkk - vienna) that crashed in 1993, killing 223 people - the ranger asked us for 1000b to take us up (need a 4x4 to go up, or a motorbike) we thought this to be double what we was expecting for 2 hours, so instead hired a motorbike from a local in the nearby village for 200b. Further up still there is another campsite on a peak (khao son) but we didnt visit. All in all, it was ok for a stopover, but there are better...
