U-Thong National Museum ( the 2nd regional office of Fine Art Department ( Suphan Buri ), Ministry of Culture ) is located on the southern area, on Malai Road, Tambon U-Thong, Amphoe U- Thong, Chang Wat Suphan Buri 72160, approximately 127 kilometers from Bangkok ( Kasetsart University ), 30 kilometers distanced from Amphoe Mueng Suphan Buri. In A.D. 1959 ( B.E. 2502 ), this office start construction and officially open for public on May 13, 1966, targeted to collect artifacts ancient remains from archaeological excavation in U- Thong ancient city and vicinity area. Inside the building, the community development displayed from the prehistoric period ( 3,000 years ago ) until Dvaravati period ( 1,000- 1,400 years ago ), reflecting to the community development in the Metal Age and continually developed to be trading center as this area of that time was the world maritime trading route network, as of such it was not only the place of local and foreign goods exchange but also the culture, Indian culture in particular influenced to the literature, politics, beliefs, arts and religious, the first Dvaravati Buddhism ( Brahmanism mixed ) firstly adopted, the evidence of artifacts from archaeological excavation the such as Wheel of the Laws, terra cotta ( Buddha image, votive tablets ), bronze Buddha image, apart from that stone ( beads, head of deer, linga on yoni base ), Roman coin, figure of foreigner stucco, seal, incription silver coins, plat ( three monkey carrying bowl posture ) art window and utensils etc. found. The exhibition zoned as 6 sections ( rooms ), details as followed, 1st room: Ancestors of U-Thong people ( U-Thong history as the ancient marked city of Dvaravati culture where Indian culture 's influence as aforementioned ), 2nd room: Dvaravati at U- Thong ( the community development from prehistoric period until historic period ), 3rd room: Historical Development of Suvarnabhumi ( sea trading route from India to Suvarnabhumi, approximately 2,500 year ago ), 4th room: Maritime Trade of Suvarnabhumi ( origin city of Dvaravati culture, approximately 1,800 year ago ), 5th room: U-Thong as the Center of Buddhism ( replica of Buddhist art creation ), 6th room: Special Exhibition ( for the special occasion that displayed as specific period ) and plus one room where stalls situated, books, souvenirs are available for sale. The 3th building ( the 1st and 2nd buildings are connected with walk way on the second floor ) : The House of Lao Song ( Lao Song or Thai Song Dam ethnic group traditionally wear black clothes, previously settled in Vietnam and Lao, they have unique language, costume, traditions and beliefs, they migrated to Chang Wat Phetchaburi as the first settlement during Thonburi and early Rattanakosin period and expanding to the other areas, one group was settled down in Amphoe U- Thong present day ). In addition, the outdoor area exhibited base of sculpture, portion of stupa and replica of archaeological excavation ( prehistoric human skeleton of the traditional and belief of burying ceremony displayed ). U-Thong national museum is a must visit place for visitors who want to further the trip and know more about archaeological site, archaeology and ancient remains including prehistoric and history of community development from ancient time to present day. U-Thong National Museum ( the 2nd regional office of Fine Art Department ( Suphan Buri ), Ministry of Culture ) is located on the southern area, on Malai Road, Tambon U-Thong, Amphoe U- Thong, Chang Wat Suphan Buri 72160, approximately 127 kilometers from Bangkok ( Kasetsart University ), 30 kilometers distanced from Amphoe Mueng Suphan Buri.
