อุทยานแห่งชาติหาดเจ้าไหมสามารถแบ่งพื้นที่ออกได้เป็น 2 ส่วน ได้แก่ พื้นที่ดินชายฝั่งทะเล รวมทั้งเกาะมุกต์ เกาะกระดาน เกาะแหวน เกาะเชือก เกาะเมง เกาะปลิง และเกาะเจ้าไหม บริเวณชายฝั่งนี้ประกอบด้วยเขาหินปูนสูงชัน ทางตอนเหนือด้านตะวันออกมีเทือกเขาจองจันทร์ เทือกเขาควนเม็ดจูน เทือกเขาควนแดง ฯลฯ ซึ่งเป็นแหล่งกำเนิดต้นน้ำลำธารหลายสายที่มารวมกันเป็นคลองบางสัก ไหลลงสู่แม่น้ำตรัง

พื้นน้ำ ครอบคลุมพื้นที่ประมาณ 137.22 ตารางกิโลเมตร เป็นห้วงน้ำลึก มีความลึกเฉลี่ย 20 เมตร

ลักษณะภูมิอากาศ สภาพภูมิอากาศของอุทยานแห่งชาติหาดเจ้าไหมจัดอยู่ในลักษณะภูมิอากาศแบบร้อนชื้นสลับชุ่มชื้น ได้รับอิทธิพลจากลมมรุสุมตะวันตกเฉียงใต้และลมมรสุมตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือทั้งสองด้าน จึงทำให้ฝนตกชุกตลอดปี ทำให้เกิดฤดู 2 ฤดู คือ ฤดูร้อนและฤดูฝน เด่นชัดกว่าฤดูหนาว โดยฤดูร้อนเริ่มตั้งแต่เดือนมกราคม - เมษายน ส่วนฤดูฝนเริ่มต้นตั้งแต่เดือนพฤษภาคม - ธันวาคม อากาศร้อนชื้นถึงชุ่มชื้น อุณหภูมิเฉลี่ยตลอดปีประมาณ 27 องศาเซลเซียส ปริมาณน้ำฝนมากว่า 2,100 มิลลิเมตรต่อปี

พืชพรรณและสัตว์ป่า สังคมพืชที่พบในอุทยานแห่งชาติหาดเจ้าไหมสามารถจำแนกออกได้เป็น ป่าดงดิบ ครอบคลุมพื้นที่ชายฝั่งตอนในบริเวณเขาน้ำราบ บ่อน้ำร้อน ทิศตะวันออกของหาดทรายเป็นส่วนใหญ่ รวมทั้งบนเกาะมุกต์ พันธุ์ไม้ที่พบได้แก่ ยางวาด ตะเคียนหิน ตะเคียนทอง ตำเสา หลุมพอ คอแลน ฯลฯ พืชพื้นล่างเป็นพวกหวายและเถาวัลย์

ป่าเขาหินปูน พบด้านทิศตะวันตกของเกาะมุกต์ เกาะเชือก เกาะแหวน เกาะปลิง เขาแบนะ เขาหยงหลิง เขาเมง และเขาเจ้าไหม ประกอบด้วยพืชพรรณเฉพาะพื้นที่ เช่น จันทน์ผา เป้ง สลัดได ยอป่า เตยเขา ปรงเขา กล้วยไม้ชนิดต่างๆ และบอน เป็นต้น

ป่าชายหาด ขึ้นอยู่เป็นบริเวณแคบๆ ตามชายหาดและโขดหินที่น้ำทะเลท่วมไม่ถึง พันธุ์ไม้ที่สำคัญ เช่น หู กวาง สนทะเล กระทิง เม่า พื้นที่ราบต่อจากชายหาดเป็นป่าโปร่งประกอบด้วยไม้แคระแกร็น พันธุ์ไม้สำคัญได้แก่ เคี่ยม นนทรี เสม็ดแดง ยอป่า หนามแท่ง ช้องแมว พืชชั้นล่างเป็นพวกหญ้าชนิดต่างๆ

ป่าชายเลน พบในพื้นที่ถัดจากชายหาดเข้ามาในบริเวณหลังที่ทำการอุทยานแห่งชาติตลอดแนวจากหาดปากเมงถึงหาดเจ้าไหม และมีการกระจายอยู่ตามอ่าวของเกาะมุกต์ พันธุ์ไม้ที่สำคัญได้แก่ โกงกางใบเล็ก โกงกางใบใหญ่ โปรง ตะบูน ตะบัน ถั่ว ตาตุ่มทะเล เป้งทะเล เหงือกปลาหมอ จาก และหวายลิง เป็นต้น สังคมพืชน้ำ ได้แก่ หญ้าทะเล และสาหร่ายทะเล ซึ่งอุทยานแห่งชาติหาดเจ้าไหมเป็นแหล่งหญ้าทะเลขนาดใหญ่ครอบคลุมพื้นที่ 3,975 ไร่ ระหว่างแหลมหยงหลิงและเกาะมุกต์ จากการสำรวจพบหญ้าทะเลขึ้นอยู่ 8 ชนิด ได้แก่ หญ้าเต่า หญ้าชะเงาใบยาว หญ้าชะเงาใบสั้นสีน้ำตาล หญ้าชะเงาใบสั้นสีเขียว หญ้าชะเงาใบสั้นปล้องยาว หญ้าใบสน หญ้าผมนาง และหญ้าใบมะกรูด

สัตว์ที่พบอยู่ในอุทยานแห่งชาติหาดเจ้าไหมจำแนกออกได้เป็น สัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนม พบรวม 51 ชนิด ได้แก่ พะยูน เลียงผา ค่างดำ ค้างแว่นถิ่นใต้ เก้ง กระจงเล็ก เสือไฟ แมวดาว นากเล็กเล็บสั้น ชะมดแผงหางดำ กระเล็นขนหางปลายหูสั้น หนูฟานสีเหลือง และค้างคาวชนิดต่างๆ ฯลฯ

นก พบรวม 137 ชนิด ได้แก่ นกกระสาคอดำ นกตะกรุม นกยางจีน นกทะเลขาเขียวลายจุด นกนางนวลแกลบพันธุ์จีน นกกก นกแต้วแล้ว และ นกแซงแซวหางบ่วงใหญ่ ฯลฯ

สัตว์เลื้อยคลาน พบ 29 ชนิด ได้แก่ เต่าบึงหัวเหลือง จิ้งจกหางเรียบ ตุ๊กแกหางเรียบ กิ้งก่าสวน แย้จุด เหี้ย จิ้งจกเรียวท้องเหลือง งูเหลือม งูไซ และงูพังกา เป็นต้น br สัตว์สะเทินน้ำสะเทินบก พบ 9 ชนิด ได้แก่ จงโคร่ง คางคกบ้าน กบอ่อง ปาดบ้าน อึ่งอ่างบ้าน เป็นต้น

I completely agree with the Thai policy regarding the protection of the country's natural territory. Without the parks there would be private resorts, so it would be a disaster. I do not understand, however, why the Park Authority adopts a method which seems to be not friendly with foreign visitors. Foreigners Prices are 5 times higher than Thai people prices. No brochures in English. No paper map to deliver to the visitor. Display boards written almost entirely in Thai language. Staff at the check point who cannot speak English. Quite listless staff. In practice, the foreigner is asked to blindly pay for the ticket and to find out later if the place is interesting or not. I don't find this a correct way to do. Maybe the Parks Authority doesn't want foreign visitors? Perhaps someone has forgotten that tourism in Thailand is worth 20% of its GDP?
