At the south east of the island, there's the most remote and secluded beach due to the difficulty of its access. It starts with a road sign warning visitors that the way is very deteriorated and dangerous for inexperienced scooter/motorbike riders. Make sure it's not been raining before you go or it's way too slippery slopes for any vehicle. And don't forget to go back before 5 pm as it is totally impassable in the darkness. There's no wifi, no internet connection and not even a phone service there. You're literally on your own. It takes about 30 mins to reach the beach through thick forest, slippery rocks, fallen branches, treacherous roots and many spider web ending up in your face 👀 . Arrived at the beach you'll be blessed with the sound of the waves, it's a crescent shaped beach, sometimes littered with plastic, depending on the tides. A few camping tents for real adventurers, I saw a hut serving drinking water and snacks. If you go on the weekend: you might be annoyed by the speed boats and their passengers coming to make selfie, in the weekday you may have the beach for yourself. Bring some water and food, better don't go alone and inform your hotel that you'll go there. It's a truly unique experience in the island. The last real place. A little rose with...
Read moreGetting to this place is not for the feint hearted and requires some level of motorcycle skills and bravery. I would not recommend attempting the drive if you’ve hired a 125cc bike with thin wheels. The main access to the trail has a warning that the road ahead is unsafe and to proceed with caution, which proved an understatement. The road starts with a little tarmac but this quickly starts to disintegrated left with gravels and deep channels when and re 4x4’s have driven when wet. It takes a lot of patience and judgement to navigate as safely as you can. At some points your back wheel is skating as you decent nearly vertical and you have to concentrate hard and pump the front brakes. This trail is about 2k long before you turn off onto another sand track leading to the beach. This is better but still hairy in places and not particularly safe or enjoyable. However, once you reach the beach you really are in paradise, there were a few hardy individuals and a couple of Thai fishing, but other than that you’re alone on an amazing beach. It’s hard to say it’s worth the journey because of the risks getting there, but the payoff is pretty cool and you will be treated to some breathtaking scenery (with the obligatory plastic and COVID detritus strewn...
Read moreWai Chaek Beach is one of the most scenic and picturesque beachs on Koh Chang, however its also the most hidden and unknown beach due to its remote location and limited access. Wai Chaek Beach can be found easily on Google Maps, (recently the road to WCB has been closed so permission may be necessary from the nearby Ranger station) normally access was available via its unmaintained very rugged rough road, however if open, I would highly recommend using a 4x4 or motorbike capable as the road is steep and slippery in spots making it a dangerous road to navigate especially riding tandem or with a child. I would definitely NOT recommended taking the WCB road for novice motorbike riders. Another option is to just park outside the road entrance and walk/hike the three (3) kilometers to WCB. If you go there you should bring water, food and anything else you may need as there are no shops, no restaurants and no restrooms, other than that it is a gorgeous beach well worth a visit. ( Recent update; as of February 2024, other people have posted that there is now a shack at WCB selling drinks and some snack food) I can't confirm as I haven't been...
