Kaeng Saphue Public Park — Attraction in Ubon Ratchathani Province

Kaeng Sapue is about a 45-minute drive from Ubon and located in Phibun Mangsahan. It is a great place to relax and soak up some of the most authentic Thai lifestyle. Often you will find fishermen out on their boats with nets catching and selling fish right on the river banks. A lot of the people just come to relax under the shade of the big trees and have a picnic. There are many little stalls where they sell local goodies such as decorative ornaments, clothing, food but what they are most famous for is their fried banana chips. Kaeng Sapue is said to be the home of the best fried banana chips in the whole of Thailand and people come from all over just to get their hands on some. In the park, hanging from a few of the trees you can find wire frames in the shapes of hearts with locks all over them. Locals believe that if you and your partner put a lock on one of these hearts, your love will be locked in for ever and you will forever find peace and happiness whenever you and your partner are together. If you are in Phibun Mangsahan, visit this place for nice evening fun with family. Nice surroundings, beautiful river view, mouth licking Thai snacks and few souvenir shops. River water level depends on season. There is a beautiful and colourful Chinese temple nearby. We had a wonderful experience here. It suddenly started raining and back home when there is first rain of the season, we have piping hot roasted corn spices with salt n lemon. There was corn for sale but boiled one with sugar. I thought to give it a try. With limited knowledge of Phasha Thai, tried to explain and finally was able to pronounce 'Klua' the correct way. The other meaning of Klua- Fear, (due to my wrong pronounciation) created confusion for a while. แก่งสะพือ เป็นแก่งที่สวยงามที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งของจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี เป็นแก่งที่อยู่ในแม่น้ำมูล ในเขตอำเภอพิบูลมังสาหาร ห่างจากตัวจังหวัดอุบลราชธานีประมาณ 45 กิโลเมตร ตามทางหลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 217

แก่งสะพือ เป็นคำที่เพี้ยนมาจากคำว่า "ซำพืด" หรือ "ซำปื้ด" ซึ่งเป็นภาษาส่วยที่แปลว่า งูใหญ่ หรืองูเหลือม แก่งสะพือ จะมีหินน้อยใหญ่สลับซับซ้อน กระแสน้ำไหลผ่านกระทบหิน แล้วเกิดเป็นฟองขาวมีเสียงดังตลอดเวลา ริมแก่งจะมีศาลาพักร้อนตั้งอยู่ สำหรับให้นักท่องเที่ยวนั่งชมทัศนียภาพของแก่ง

ช่วงเดือนมกราคม - พฤษภาคม แก่งสะพือจะมีผู้นิยมไปเที่ยวกันมาก เพราะน้ำจะลดทำให้เห็นแก่งได้ชัดเจนและสวยงาม ส่วนในฤดูฝนน้ำจะท่วมแก่ง นอกจากนี้แล้วในเดือนเมษายนของทุกปี ในช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์ เทศบาลตำบลพิบูลมังสาหาร ก็ได้กำหนดจัดงานประเพณีสงกรานต์แก่งสะพือขึ้น เพื่อส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยว และสืบทอดประเพณีอันดีงามไว้ ซึ่งในงานนี้ก็มีนักท่องเที่ยวมาเที่ยวชมงานเป็นจำนวนมาก
