Wat Tham Si Mongkhon — Attraction in Udon Thani Province

This is an experience I will never forget. Firstly wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and that are respectful to Buddhist culture pack light as there some very narrow spaces you have to navigate in the cave. So if you have claustrophobia I don't recommend this place for you.

The journey to this wonderful and mystical place will leave you speechless, with its breathtaking scenery and just when you think you have seen it all you are greeted with giant sculptures of the King of Nagas and a huge golden Buddha statue. The entrance to the cave made me feel as I was entering a very large creatures mouth. Our guide was excellent in explaining the history about the cave as well as guiding us through this maze, but if your group gets ahead of you worry not as there are lights on the caves ceiling that guide you to the exit.

I won't spoil too much for you but I highly recommend you experience this beautiful place, but remember to be respectful as Monks still use this place for meditation and there are many shrines...

Fun to see the cave barefoot with water Some crawling and crab walking low ceiling I weigh 100kilos and did it led by a 12 yr old boy named pai You pay 100 baht for the electricity Personally i would of liked it to be pitch black but that's me The entire place is heavily focused on the naga, a buddhist/thai divine or semi divine being that is often formed like a snake or half human and snake, they are heavily connected with water and caves It is believed the mekong was formed after two nagas slid that path, here i did not find more details, but i assume the naga formed this cave as well, indeed it is an interesting cave shaped oddly. Plus the drive is beautiful No real food here, some snacks and cold drinks One star missing because i wanted it...

ณ วัดถ้ำศรีมงคล จังหวัดหนองคาย สถานที่ที่นี้มีเรื่องเล่าและตำนานเกี่ยวกับเรื่องพญานาค โดยภายในวัดแห่งนี้จะมีถ้ำที่อยู่ลึกลงไปในพื้นดินมีชื่อว่าถ้ำดินเพียง ชาวบ้านเชื่อว่าในอดีตถ้ำแห่งนี้เป็นที่อยู่อาศัยและหนทางในการสัญจรไปมาของนครบาดาลและพญานาค ประกอบกับภายในถ้ำมีน้ำชื้นอยู่ตลอดเวลาและมีลักษณะเป็นโพรงลอดผ่านเข้าไป

ก่อนการจะเข้าสู่ภายในถ้ำทางเจ้าหน้าที่ของวัดจะให้เราจุดธูปและไหว้ขอขมาสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ก่อนที่เจ้าหน้าที่จะเป็นไกด์นำพาเราเดินเข้าสู่ถ้ำแห่งนี้ ซึ่งก่อนอื่นเจ้าหน้าที่ก็จะอธิบายประวัติความเป็นมา รวมถึงข้อห้ามในการเข้าไปเที่ยวภายในถ้ำ หลังจากนั้นจึงให้ทุกคนถอดรองเท้าและเรียงแถวกันเข้าสู่ปากถ้ำ ในช่วงแรกนั้นเพดานถ้ำจะต่ำมากต้องนั่งยองๆ แล้วค่อยๆ เดินเข้าไปด้านใน ซึ่งเมื่อเดินมาได้ไม่นานเราก็จะได้กับโพร่งขนาดเล็กและแคบมากๆ ซึ่งเป็นหนทางที่เราจะต้องรอดผ่านเข้าไปสู่ด้านในตัวถ้ำ สำหรับคนตัวใหญ่อาจจะทุลักทุเลซักหน่อย และไม่แนะนำเลยสำหรับคนที่กลัวที่แคบ เมื่อผ่านโพรงแคบด่านแรกเข้ามาได้แล้วก็จะได้พบกับห้องโถงใหญ่ซึ่งบริเวณนี้จะถูกตกแต่งด้วยไฟนีออนสีสันสวยงาม เป็นหนึ่งในจุดไฮไลท์ของถ้ำ ขอบอกเลยว่าจุดนี้สวยงามมากจริงๆ ลักษณะภายในถ้ำเมื่อมีแสงไฟสาดส่องทำให้เรามองเห็นรายละเอียดของผนังถ้ำได้อย่างชัดเจน โดยถ้ำนี้มีช่องทางในการเดินอีกมากมายแต่เพื่อความปลอดภัยเจ้าหน้าที่จะให้เราเดินตามสายไฟนีออนที่ทอดไปตามผนังถ้ำจะเป็นหนทางที่พาเราไปสู่ทางออกได้อย่างปลอดภัยที่สุด ว่ากันว่ามีหนทางภายในถ้ำนี้ที่สามารถเดินไปทะลุออกที่แม่น้ำโขงและประเทศลาวได้ด้วย ซึ่งนั่นยิ่งตอกย้ำถึงความเชื่อในเรื่องพญานาคยิ่งเข้าไปอีก ภายในถ้ำจะถูกแบ่งเป็นห้องๆ โดยมีชื่อเรียกตามลักษณะของหินงอกหินย้อยและผนังถ้ำต่างๆ เช่นบางห้องมีหินงอกลงมาจากผนังเป็นทรงสี่เหลี่ยมขนาดใหญ่ ชาวบ้านเรียกห้องนี้ว่าเป็นห้องหีบศพของพญานาค และบางห้องมีลักษณะเหมือนเสาหินที่ตั้งเรียงรายชาวบ้านจึงเรียกที่นี่ว่าเป็นหลุมศพของพญานาคนั่นเอง ซึ่งตลอดระยะทางที่เดินนั้นจะเป็นทางแคบๆ สลับกับเพดานที่ต่ำ บางช่วงถึงขั้นต้องมุดข้ามไปเลยก็มี แต่เสน่ห์ของที่นี่นั่นก็คือแสงสีจากหลอดไฟนีออนที่ส่องสว่างเป็นประกายกระทบกับก้อนหิน มองดูแล้วสวยงามและน่าค้นหาเป็นอย่างยิ่ง เมื่อเดินมาจนสุดทางก็จะได้พบกับเจดีย์ขนาดเล็กที่ชาวบ้านเชื่อกันว่าเป็นสถานที่เก็บพระบรมสารีริกธาตุของพระพุทธเจ้าให้นักท่องเที่ยวได้กราบไหว้กันเป็นสิริมงคลก่อนจะออกจากถ้ำนี้ไป ซึ่งโดยรวมแล้ว...
