Laplae City Gate — Attraction in Uttaradit Province

If you're into Thai history / folklore, then this is a nice place to visit. The museum shown how Thai people in the region lived "in the old days". There is a cave that displays the legend of "The Truth": The Famous Legend of Laplae City. The gist of the story is as follows: The Young Man and Laplae City: A young man from Tung Yang City lost his way into the forest and found the entrance to a hidden city, Laplae City.A city rich in abundance, teeming with beautiful women. The townspeople adhere strictly to morality, prohibiting lying. The Breaking of the Vow: The young man married a Laplae woman and lived together until they had a child. One day, his wife was away, and the child was crying nonstop. The young man lied to the child, saying, "Mom's here!" to calm her down. The Exile: Lying is considered a serious breach of vow in Laplae City, leading to his expulsion from the village forever. The Turmeric Turns to Gold: The wife, feeling sorry for him, placed items in a bag, warning him not to open it before reaching home. While on the way, the young man noticed that the bag was heavy, so he secretly opened it and, seeing it was turmeric, threw it away along the way. Upon reaching home, he discovered that the small amount of turmeric remaining in the bag had turned into gold. When he tried to return to retrieve the turmeric and find the entrance to Laplae City, he was unable to find the entrance. This legend has become an important identity of the Laplae District, Uttaradit Province.
