Tanje Village Museum — Attraction in West Coast Division

Interesting museum with lots of information about fauna and flora and tradicional way of life in de the Gambia: musical instruments, crafts, textiles and a replica of a tradicional village family compound. The guide Lamin is very friendly and is happy to answer all of your questions, he knows so much! The museum is recuperating from the COVID crisis so it's important to support these wonderful and necessary projects, as they also help to educate and raise awareness about the changing environment and different cultures...

It was beautiful, the whole Gambian culture was captured. The tour guard was great.

The captivating part for me was the traditional Gambian compound. It showed the different part of the compound, where the head of the household stays, the apartment for the boys and for the different wives (Gambian is traditionally polygamous). The museum is in very bad state. It would be pretty interesting and nice if they would look after it properly. Also there is wooden giraffe and when I asked why as those animals doesn’t live in Gambia I was told they put it there so we could have a feeling that we are in forest....
