Such a difference such a short distance from Prague! We went as it was recommended by a Czech friend who has gone their for years. May I suggest the second parking area? The first had a restaurant and plenty of parking but the walk up the hill was very steep and unpaved. Walking around the grounds themselves was delightful. Statuary, views, and verdant lawns were in abundance. Near the castle entrance was a clever display board with information on over a dozen areas of interest and history - in Czech, English, and German. Picking the language was easy I learned things I hadn't known. We didn't get to see the castle interior as all the tours the Friday we visited were in Czech. Our Czech is not nearly good enough! But the courtyard was lively, with little cafes and a peacock! The small dog with us was curious but left the big bird alone. We found out that dogs are not allowed in the Rose Garden as well as the castle interior. The garden, what we could see, looked colorful and well tended. But our favorite place at the foot of the castle hill was the lake. Peaceful, cool, and watching the fish jump was a nice break from the hustle of Prague. Czech Republic has a true gem in this hunting castle by the lake. Please visit if you have a chance.

It’s our favorite castle. We came here a long time ago and recently brought our kids back to see it. It has something for everyone. My 13 year old son loved the armory and the sheer amount of antique weaponry, plus the number of animals on display. My 18 year old daughter was enthralled with the grounds, the peacocks, bear and other animals, and of course the romanticism of the castle itself. There are 3 or 4 different tours depending on what you want to see. We were short on time so we only did the armory. We would have done another if time had allowed. One of our favorite parts was the little walk up bar next to the gift shop in the parking lot. It was run by the nicest gentleman and had wonderful sausage stuffed in bread, lattes and desserts. We sat outside on a beautiful day and enjoyed the area. It’s also very close to Prague. We stopped here on our way to Hluboka. We were able to do both tours in one day! You can purchase tickets in the ticket office and there is a nice, free restroom on site.

🏰 You can visit on days when the castle itself is closed, and just have access to the exterior area, gardens, forests, and trails. 🪙 There is a fee to enter the grounds (60-70 CZK?) and you need cash. 🌲 Even if you only tour the grounds, it’s a pleasant visit. There are signs with information written in multiple languages, and some even with buttons and audio recordings (also in multiple languages). My husband and I agreed that we learned more about Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his historical context from this visit than we ever got in school! 🐻🦉 There are some captive animals on the grounds. Our toddler enjoyed seeing the bear in the moat, but I understand that this and the captive birds of prey could be upsetting for some visitors. Besides this, there are many opportunities to see free-roaming/wild animals on the grounds. 🚼 A wearable carrier is advised, as not everywhere is stroller accessible.

Nice area and nice lake. But the castle isn't that interesting as it is similar to all other castles. One thing we didn't like is that they still keep a living BEAR in one of the yards and the bear is chained and always people surround it to take pictures and watch the horrible Animal. This is a wild bear and it belongs to the forests and it needs to be free, I am not sure how is this possible that this is a touristic place in the European Union and they are still enslaving a BEAR! I did not take a picture of the bear as I did not want to bother him like other tourists are doing but seriously u should Set that poor bear free !

Lovely château close to Benešov, just a short driving distance from Prague. It is surrounded by a huge park ideal for a picnic and walk, it also features a gorgeous rose garden and greenhouse that one can visit. The interiors of the château are also worth visiting. Afternoon teas are events organized at the château one can book in advance. There is a lake near the château which is great to walk around and it offers lovely view of the castle from different perspectives. There are lots of refreshment possibilities, souvenir stores, playgrounds for children and a huge parking lot for visitors. Definitely worth stopping by.
