Disappointing visit Supposed to be a national landmark but as with everything in trinidad it is being exploited for gain and want to be controlled by a few who feel they are entitled. Have been there many times.free to explore but for the easter vacation when most kids are home and welcome outdoor activity it was closed for a nine night prayers and patrons were told if they wanted to visit they had to walk up the hill. Because we came from far and did not want to disappoint the kids we walked up with the youngest being six years old. On reaching the top after an exhausting walk in the midday sun we were greeted by a woman that wanted to know how we reached there and because we had a pizza wanted to know if we were eating meat. So after what seemed like the spanish inquisition we were told we could not go in the viewing area which is supposed to be open to the public that we could only use the shed although there were clearly tents outside where the event was held and not in the viewing area with the binoculars which the kids were looking forward to visiting. If even this area was booked. I think they could have communicated better. So we were made to feel like second class citizens in our own country. Clearly very soon to even be granted the priveledge to visit these once free areas will be at a cost or only for the elite. Apparently now you should call first and not take it for granted that it is open to the public at the hours advertised especually if you are coming from a far distance as we were. Only in Trinidad. Imagine this national landmark once free to the publuc now has...
Read moreGreat spot with spectacular views of the Gulf of Paria, San Fernando, Pt. Lisas and even the Nothern Range. Well maintained surroundings and host a variety of activities such as weddings, conferences, carnival fetes. You can even book your spot for family limes and BBQ. The jagged rocks, sheer cliffs and a sunrise and sunset on the hill is spectacular. Many sports enthusiasts use the hill for a vigorous exercise usually in the evening. There is also a basket ball court at the base next to a small lake which many don't know about cause it's hidden in a small trail or you have to go to the edge of the cliff to see it ( not recommended). If you are a bird lover this is the place for you. In addition to the small birds there are also birds of prey like hawks...
Read moreI was born and grew up in the Mon Repos area, of San Fernando. Our home faced the original hill. It was quarried for many years. There were wild goats climbing in the then lush vegetation and breathtaking views. All the way to the gulf ocean and it's bay. There was also steps to climb atop the original. I went up there with family. It was a delight to see the magnificence of it's enormity. I always look up from our windows or while playing our yard. Though I migrated very young, I have a beautiful memoir. The last time I saw it was in 2002. Comparing the original to present day, it has changed. Yet for the people of Trinidad and Tobago. A true landmark of creation. Our first native peoples the Naparaimas and to our current multi diverse...
