This small animal rescue is a little hidden gem. It is reached via a beautiful route up steep rural winding roads. When you reach there, you are in the presence of an array of tiny hummingbirds, of varying colours, visiting their nectar stations. They are fascinating to watch. Michael took the tour, he is a very kind soul with a lot of knowledge of the wildlife. They don't have lots of animals there, but enough to keep you interested - which includes parrots, turtles, tortoise, squirrels, agouti, manicou, armadillo, peccary, sally painter lizard, caiman in a beautiful lily pond and a capuchin monkey called Joe. There were also 4 adult boa constrictors which they had rescued. Householders and farmers contact the Centre to remove snakes that arrive on their premises. On average, the Centre currently collects 4-5 snakes a week, bring them back to the Centre and look after them until they are ready to be released. They do great work there. We had the added bonus of seeing a harmless black snake appear on the steps in front of us but it soon, very quickly, slithered away. You should contact them beforehand to book an appointment to visit. There is a fee currently of TT$ 150 which goes towards the care of the animals they rescue. The tour we had took approx an...
Read moreMy husband and I were in Tobago to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. Because of my husbands love for nature and animals, I thought a visit to a local wildlife would be ideal. We called Mr.Corbin and his warm friendly voice led us to believe we would have a pleasant experience. We set up a tour the very next day, July. 27, 2016. The drive seemed to be out of the way to get to but it was only 20 minutes from Magdelena Grand where we stayed. We found the drive to be pleasant and worth the trip. We were greeted at the gate by goats which set the tone that we would see other animals soon enough. Mr. Corbin was as friendly in person as he was on the phone. He took his time showing us around and as the brochure states it is very much a unique chance to appreciate the weath of Tobago's biodiversity. We had the pleasure of seeing iguanas, tattoos, mani ours, silly painters, agoutis, squirrels, quenks and hummingbirds. Thankfully we did not see the caiman who was enjoying the pond and didn't want to be disturbed. We plan to tell everyone who visits Tobago to definitely go experience the wildlife and nature trail...
Read moreIf you care about Tobago’s wildlife and forest, you must visit and meet Roy. From his childhood, he dreamed what he is now doing. Taking a dairy farm and returning it to nature then using the habitat to save and return animals to the wild. Some early stage breeding programmes also under way. I love trees and learnt more about trees in our 2 hour ramble through the forest than I could ever glean from a week of research. I found cures for common cold through to indigestion, sore eyes, and even one of those male conditions that older guys may get! Roy knows all you need to feel you understand what is an amazing habitat. We fully support the plan to extend the reserve to a neighbouring plot of land that is government owned. I hope the government reads this and rewards nature in a way that will help us all understand more and appreciate the world we are...
