This national park is a bit difficult to find. There are signs, but you have to look closely for them, and the last turn is down an unmarked dirt road. Just enter "Hammam Sidi Ben Abbes, Tunisia" as your destination in Google Maps, and you should drive right to it.

The welcome area is currently under extended construction (August 2018). It looks like they found some Roman ruins in the hillside when they were doing excavation for a cistern, so that may have slowed the construction process. It's kind of cool to see a Roman mosaic floor as it's being unearthed, so I enjoyed that.

Park at the welcome area and hike up the stairs to the biological museum at the vista point. The museum is not very impressive, but the views are quite nice.

I would recommend going on a cool day so you can hike further along the ridge line. Also, check the migration schedule for the major bird species. We saw very little wildlife...

One of my favorite places in Tunis so far.. the way to the museum on the mountain is paved and not high.. the panorama on top view is amazing, great area to walk and take some fantastic photos/selfies. Although it’s public, you may face some difficulty entering the park if you don’t have a permit, but it wasn’t impossible to get in...

الحديقة الوطنية بإشكل هي إحدى المحميات الطبيعية في تونس. تأسست الحديقة سنة 1980. تقع في ولاية بنزرت على بعد 70 كلم شمال شرقي تونس العاصمة وعلى مسافة 25 كلم جنوب غربي بنزرت وعن مدينة ماطر 15 كلم. تبلغ مساحتها 12600 هكتار تتوزع بين البحيرة (8500 هكتار) والجبل (1360 هكتار) والسباخ (2740 هكتار). وتحوي هذه الحديقة 600 نوع من النباتات، و200 ألف إلى 300 ألف من الطيور المائية المشتية تنتمي إلى 180 نوعٍ مختلف.

وقع ترسيم المحمية بقائمة "محميات الكائنات الحية ومحيطها"، وبالتالي فهي توجد على قائمة التراث الدولي الطبيعي والثقافي لليونسكو منذ 1991. وهي الموقع الطبيعي الوحيد في العالم، المرسّم بالاتفاقيات الدولية الثلاث لحماية الطبيعة، وهي:

One of my favorite places in Tunis so far.. the way to the museum on the mountain is paved and not high.. the panorama on top view is amazing, great area to walk and take some fantastic photos/selfies. Parc inscrit au patrimoine de l'UNESCO. Joli endroit. Dommage que c'est mal entretenu et pas animé du tout. A l'entrée, il est exigé de s'enregistrer auprès d'un agent en donnant son nom, le nombre de passagers t'accompagnant et le matricule du véhicule !!! La route est dégradée en partie et peu commode. Le parking n'est pas opérationnel : les voitures sont obligées de stationner sur le bas côté tout au long de la route depuis l'entrée. Le musée n'a pas changé depuis sa création en 1989. Il n'y a ni guide ni animation. Idéal pour un pique nique en pleine nature. Prière de ramasser ses déchets et de respecter la nature. A éviter pendant les vacances scolaires.
